Lee Records 34 Saves for Dutchmen Men’s Ice Hockey Against Misericordia

HERSHEY, Pa. ­­– Goaltender Jason Lee made 34 saves for the Lebanon Valley College Men's Ice Hockey team, as the program dropped a close 1-0 contest to Misericordia University on Friday, Jan. 31, at Hersheypark Arena.

The Dutchmen generated some scoring chances early in the game, as Ian Lindberg took a shot that was saved 22 seconds into the first period. Lukas Washco also contributed to these efforts with a shot that was saved 2:39 into the frame before Tanner Tolliver put a pair of shots on goal that were saved within seven seconds near the end of the third minute. Lebanon Valley was productive on the defensive end as well, as Lee then delivered saves on tries by the Cougars at the 4:02, 4:08, and 7:49 marks. This was followed by Troy Andrews coming through with a block for LVC at the 8:31 mark, helping limit the opposition. 

Misericordia went on a power play near the end of the ninth minute, and the Dutchmen held the squad to just one shot on goal during this stretch. The Cougars registered this attempt at the 10:20 mark, which resulted in another stop by Lee. Lebanon Valley also kept sending the puck toward the net as the opening period progressed, putting 11 shots on goal over the next 6:14. During this stretch, Brenden Yingling had two attempts saved while Cade Helmer and Cameron Croteau each registered a try that was saved within 30 seconds in the 17th minute. Misericordia countered with a shot 16:47 into the first, and Lee delivered a save. LVC then created two more scoring chances during a power play, as Dylan Miller and Darion Benchich each took a shot that was saved within 12 seconds in the 19th minute. 

Lee continued to face shots by the Cougars when the second period began, as the goalie made a pair of stops within nine seconds during the first minute. Lebanon Valley also kept tallying shots, as Benchich had an attempt saved 46 seconds into the frame, and Justin Davis logged a try that was saved at the 3:02 mark. The Flying Dutchmen battled defensively during the second as well, as Lindberg and Blake Dustin each blocked a shot within 34 seconds in the sixth minute. Harris Blackwood then blocked a shot for LVC at the 6:21 mark before Lee made a save 27 seconds later. Back on the offensive end, Benchich put a shot on goal that was saved at the 8:54 mark and Cameron Croteau had an attempt saved 9:23 into the frame while the squad was on a power play. 

Misericordia then got on the scoreboard 10:34 into the second period, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by James Eng. The Dutchmen responded by generating a pair of offensive opportunities, as Mac Diver took a shot that was saved at the 11:09 mark, and Dustin tallied an attempt that was saved 41 seconds later. Lebanon Valley's defense also kept working to limit the opposition as the second period progressed, as Lee made stops at the 12:53 and 13:09 marks while Diver blocked a shot 13:36 into the period. The Cougars later went on a power play that began in the 15th minute, and Reece McDonald had a block while Lee made two saves during this penalty kill. The goaltender proceeded to make four more saves in the remaining minutes of the second, keeping the opposition scoreless during this span. 

The Dutchmen continued to deliver a strong defensive effort when the third period got underway, as Davis blocked a shot just 27 seconds into the frame. Later in the period, Lee logged two saves while Diver blocked a shot within 40 seconds in the sixth minute. Lee then delivered another stop for LVC at the 6:28 mark. Lebanon Valley also kept taking shots as the third frame progressed, as Cade Freer logged two shots that were saved within 41 seconds in the 10th minute. Miller and Helmer contributed to these efforts as well, tallying an attempt each within five seconds during the 11th minute. Jordan Stear followed this by sending a puck toward the net that was saved 12:54 into the period. 

Lee kept working to hold the opposition in check as the third period went on, registering a pair of stops within four seconds in the 14th minute. The goaltender then made another save for the Flying Dutchmen at the 15:04 mark while the program was on a penalty kill. Misericordia followed this with a couple more shots during a power play, which resulted in saves by Lee at the 16:35 and 17:02 marks. The Dutchmen proceeded to keep battling until the clock expired, as Blackwood took a pair of shots that were saved at the 19:41 and 19:52 marks. Ultimately, the score was maintained through the end of the game.
