LANCASTER, Pa. – Tim Kissinger broke the Lebanon Valley football record for longest field goal with a 56-yarder as time expired to end the first half in the Dutchmen's first game of the season at Franklin & Marshall College on Friday evening. The host Diplomats used a 14-point first quarter to defeat the Dutchmen 30-10.
Kissinger ended the first half on a high note for the Dutchmen with his school record field goal. His kick just got over the goalpost and broke the former school record of 51 yards by Bob Muir in 1982. Kissinger's previous longest field goal was a 50-yarder he connected on last year at Stevenson.
Franklin & Marshall drove the ball down to the LVC two-yard line on their first offensive possession. The Dutchmen came up with a big turnover as
Nick Morder stepped in front of a pass headed for the end zone for an interception. The defense came up big again on the Diplomats' next offensive possession as
Jonathan Hannevig blocked a 30-yard field goal attempt and
Ryan Fink returned it 16 yards. After getting the ball back on the next play, F&M scored on a 47-yard touchdown pass for the first score of the game. The Diplomats made it 14 with just over a minute left in the quarter as a one-yard run up the middle finished off a seven-play drive that started at the F&M 35.
The Diplomats increased their lead to 20-0 on the first drive of the second quarter as they drove the ball 62 yards on seven plays that ended with a 21-yard touchdown pass. The Dutchmen stopped the two-point attempt on a rush up the middle. Franklin & Marshall had a pair of field goal opportunities in the quarter with a 44-yard attempt missing right and short, and then a 21-yard attempt going through the uprights to make it 23-0 with 26 seconds left in the half.
Braden Bohannon completed two quick strikes to
Rylee Stahl and found
Deshawn Wilson twice to put the ball at the F&M 39 with one second to go in the half. The Dutchmen called on Kissinger who gave LVC some momentum going into the half with his big kick.
The Dutchmen came out of the break and the defense shut the Diplomats down on the opening drive. LVC started at their own 20 following a touchback and drove the ball down the field getting two first downs including a big 40-yard completion from Bohannon to Wilson. The drive was stopped at the nine as the F&M intercepted a pass. The Diplomats used the final 8:09 of the quarter driving down the field and scored on the third play of the fourth quarter with an eight-yard touchdown pass. LVC scored a touchdown late in the fourth quarter as
Logan Klitsch found
Jeremy Bours Jr. in the end zone for a one-yard touchdown pass with 1:20 remaining. The Dutchmen drove the ball 80 yards on 10 plays in 2:48 during their final drive of the game.
