Senior
Emma Dissinger '24, D'26 has a passion for golf that has fueled her success with the Lebanon Valley College women's golf team during the past four seasons.
The senior has been around the sport for as long as she can remember, growing up in a family with a deep affection for the sport. Dissinger's father coached her high school team while her brother became a PGA professional. She has fond memories of playing golf during vacations with her family, including when they competed at Baywood Greens Golf Course in Long Neck, Del. Among all the venues Dissinger has played at, this course still ranks at the top.
Dissinger attended practices with her father and brother growing up and realized that she enjoyed playing the sport competitively during her first year of high school. This prompted her to join the local junior tour during the summer to compete at a higher level.
Dissinger has since achieved her goal of playing golf collegiately while becoming one of Lebanon Valley's top players.
"I chose LVC because of my interest in Physical Therapy, and I enjoyed the campus during my first visit," Dissinger said. "The accelerated Physical Therapy Program caught my eye, and playing golf in college was a bonus. I have been around the game my entire life, so I was grateful to continue my golfing career at the collegiate level. I have had a great experience as a student-athlete at Lebanon Valley."
Dissinger was the team's leading finisher in her first three seasons and tied the program record for the lowest round at the MAC Championships with an 86 as a sophomore. She then posted a career-best score of 83 to break the program record in the 2023 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championships, finishing tenth. This performance earned Dissinger selection to the All-MAC Second Team, marking the first member of the team to receive All-Conference honors since 2018.
"It was nice to be recognized as an All-MAC Second Team honoree last season," Dissinger said. "My goal in each match is to play my best to help the team record the best possible score. I am proud of how we played at the MAC Championships last season and this spring."
While the senior has excelled on the golf course with the Flying Dutchmen, one of her biggest takeaways from competing with the program is the camaraderie created with her teammates.
"Some of my favorite memories with the golf team are the van rides to our matches and participating in our mini competitions at practice," Dissinger said.
Dissinger enjoys when the team participates in match-play competitions during practice to simulate high-pressure situations during the season. The senior also has memories from Lebanon Valley's Ryder Cup-style competitions that wrap up each campaign, where the LVC's men's and women's programs and coaching staff divide into two teams to compete against each other.
In addition to playing for the women's golf team, Dissinger is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and a Valley Ambassador for the Admissions Office. She has also succeeded academically as a Physical Therapy major at Lebanon Valley and as part of the College's Physical Therapy Club. Dissinger looks forward to beginning her career after completing her Lebanon Valley education.
"After graduating from LVC's Doctor of Physical Therapy Program, I hope to begin my clinical work as a physical therapist," Dissinger said. "I would love to work with kids, so after gaining clinical experience, I will look to further specialize as a pediatric physical therapist and gain other certifications."
