Kiviniemi Scores Hat Trick in Final Game

HOBOKEN, N.J. – Alex Kiviniemi led the Lebanon Valley men's lacrosse team with three goals in the season finale at 14th-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon in Hoboken. The Ducks scored 10 times in the first quarter to defeat the Dutchmen 23-5.
 
Stevens (15-2, 7-0 MAC Freedom) used a big first quarter to jump out to a 10-goal advantage. The Ducks scored four times in the first five minutes while dominating shots 21-5 in the quarter. The Dutchmen (7-10, 3-4 MAC Freedom) fought back valiantly against the highly ranked Ducks and started building some momentum in the final minutes of the quarter as Jake Bollinger and Kiviniemi had shots saved.
 
After a couple minutes of back-and-forth to begin the second quarter, Bollinger scored his 42nd goal of the year for LVC's first goal of the game. Stevens responded with a pair of goal seven seconds apart before Kiviniemi found the back of the et for his first goal of the game. The midfielder then caused a turnover, picked up the ground ball, and scored to cut the lead to 12-3 with eight minutes left in the half. The Ducks went on to score three times in the next two minutes to take a 12-goal advantage into the break.
 
The Dutchmen played the Ducks close in the third quarter after SIT scored the first three goals of the half. John Lux scored unassisted and Kiviniemi completed his hat trick in the final minute of the quarter. The Ducks used a strong fourth quarter with three goals on 11 shots to close out the game.
 
Inside the Box
  • Kiviniemi ends his extraordinary career with his fifth hat trick of the season. The midfielder finished with 190 career points on 141 goals and 49 assists.
  • Lux scored a goal on three shots to finish the year by scoring in 15 of 17 games.
  • Bollinger scored a goal on seven shots. The senior finishes the year with 42 goals to give him 145 in his career. He is second in program history with 204 points.
  • Sheadan Makosy had another strong defensive game by leading the team with six ground balls. He also caused a turnover.
  • Mitchel Gearhart won five faceoffs and had four ground balls.

LVC finishes the first year of MAC Freedom play with a 3-4 conference mark. The Dutchmen finish fifth in the conference standings, a game out of fourth.
