Women’s Lacrosse Defeats Vassar Behind Lougee Game-Winner

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley women's lacrosse team won a thrilling 13-12 overtime decision over visiting Vassar College on a rainy Saturday afternoon as Anna Lougee scored the game-winning goal 1:36 into the extra session.

The overtime win was the second for the Dutchmen (2-3) this year in the first-ever meeting with the Brewers (1-2). Emily Beard had a big game for the Dutchmen as she eclipsed the 100-point mark in her career. The senior scored the first goal of the game with 11:38 on the clock. Vassar responded with a pair of quick goals to take a 2-1 advantage. Elizabeth Morgan tied the game up with her first goal of the game. Beard then found Erin Zieber streaking across the middle for the go-ahead goal and Beard's milestone point with the assist. The Brewers won the following draw and tied things back up with three minutes to go in the quarter.

The Dutchmen did not allow the Brewers to touch the ball the rest of period as Beard won the draw and then assisted on a goal by Bethany Cohee. Zieber then won the draw control before Beard found Molly Whisler open for a goal. Zieber once again won the draw and Lougee scored her first goal of the game with 19 seconds remaining off an assist by Whisler. Beard won the following draw and Alyssa Wene had a shot go wide to close out the first 15 minutes of play.

The Brewers began the second quarter strong and were able to cut the lead down to 6-5 on a pair of goals over the first seven minutes of action. LVC struck back with a free position goal by Alyssa Wene and a goal by Morgan with just over three minutes left to take an 8-5 lead into the halftime break.

The lead expanded to four goals as Beard converted a free position shot four minutes into the second half. Vassar scored a minute later before Beard finished off her hat trick with her third goal of the game to make it 10-6 in favor of the Dutchmen. The Brewers scored on a free position attempt before Morgan scored her third goal of the game with 2:44 on the clock. Vassar finished the quarter strong with two goals in the final 25 seconds to cut the deceit to 11-9 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Brewers continued the strong play to begin the final quarter and scored three times over a very defensive 10 minutes of play to take their second lead of the game at 12-11 with 4:44 on the clock. Whisler tied the game back up for the Dutchmen as she scored a woman-up free position goal with just over two minutes to go in regulation. The Brewers won the following draw control and held the ball until the shot clock was about the expire. Riley Finnegan caused a big turnover and Vassar had a player given a card on a dangerous backswing. The Brewers were issued another card as LVC pushed the ball up field in the final minute. The Dutchmen were not able to get off a shot and the game headed to overtime.

Beard won the opening draw control of the extra session, and the Dutchmen worked the ball around looking for an opportunity against the Brewers who were still two women down for the first 30 seconds. Zieber had her shot attempt go high, but the Morgan was right there to keep possession in hands of LVC. Lougee then beat her defender to the right and fired a bullet into the back of the goal giving the Dutchmen an exciting victory in the rain.
