ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley women's lacrosse midfielder
Erin Zieber recorded the 150th draw control of her career as the Dutchmen dropped a hard-fought 16-8 decision to Susquehanna University on Saturday at Arnold Field in Annville.
Zieber won the opening draw control of the game and the Dutchmen (2-4) had two shots in the first minute as
Emily Beard's attempt went wide and then
Alyssa Wene had her shot saved. The River Hawks (6-2) were able to score first in the game with a woman-up goal with 11:16 left in the first. Susquehanna added four more goals over the next five minutes to take a 5-0 lead. LVC fought back and Beard found
Bethany Cohee over the middle for a goal with two minutes left to make it 5-1 going into the second quarter.
The River Hawks opened the second with a pair of goals to bring the lead up to six and force LVC to call a timeout. The Dutchmen came out of the timeout strong as Wene won the draw control and then Beard hit the post on her free position shot. The Dutchmen cut the lead down to 7-3 with a pair of back-to-back free position goals by
Anna Lougee and Wene which made Susquehanna call a timeout. The River Hawks responded with a pair of goals in the final five minutes of the half to build a 9-3 advantage.
The Dutchmen opened the second half strong by killing off a card and the
Elizabeth Morgan found Beard for a nice goal 31 seconds into the half. That was the only goal the Dutchmen were able to score in the quarter as Susquehanna held the Dutchmen to just three more shots in the quarter. The River Hawks added four more goals to their total to take a 13-4 lead into the final 15 minutes of play.
Susquehanna scored on the first possession of the fourth quarter to go up by 10. The Dutchmen quickly got the deficit down to eight on a pair of nice back-to-back goals by Wene and
Molly Whisler. LVC kept the pressure on as Morgan fired one home off an assist by
Anna Lougee. The River Hawks ended the scoring run with a woman-up goal with 4:26 on the clock. Zieber scored to cut the lead to seven with a little under two to play before Susquehanna scored on the next possession to set the final score.
Inside the Box
- Zieber won a game-high eight draw controls and now has 151 in her career. She also scored a goal and had two ground balls.
- Wene had two goals for her third multi-goal game of the season. The junior also won six draw controls.
- Beard, Lougee, and Morgan all had two points on a goal and an assist each.
- Beard led the team with nine shots and put five of them on goal.
- LVC had a 19-8 advantage on draw controls and were 15-18 on clear attempts.
- The Dutchmen held the River Hawks to 0-7 on free position shots.
