ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley men's lacrosse team had four multi-point scorers on Saturday afternoon in a heart-breaking 11-10 defeat to Saint Vincent College on Arnold Field.
The Dutchmen battled back from a 5-1 first quarter deficit to tie the game with 2:46 left before the Bearcats scored the game-winning goal a minute later. Saint Vincent started strong by winning the first two faceoffs and scoring on the first two possessions of the game. The Dutchmen got on the board midway through the quarter as
Dylan Rinyak found
Rowan Myers on the left side for his sixth goal of the season. SVC scored three times in the final 3:30 to take a 5-1 lead.
LVC came out strong to begin the second quarter and cut into the lead with the first of three
Jake Bollinger goals on the afternoon.
Trey Ralston assisted on the play. After a Bearcat goal,
Alex Kiviniemi scored an unassisted goal as he bounced a ball in off the turf. A little over a minute later
Ethan Keenan sent a cross-field pass to Ralston for a goal cutting the lead down to two with seven minutes to play in the half. Neither team was able to score over the rest of the half as Saint Vincent went into the locker room with a 6-4 advantage.
Bollinger got the Dutchmen within one goal a minute and a half into the third quarter as he scored his second goal of the game off an assist from
Colin Hughes. The Bearcats responded with a pair of goals to push the lead back up to three with 10:43 remaining in the period. LVC scored right away after the second goal as Kiviniemi sent a pass to
John Lux from the middle of the field to the right side and Lux took one step and fired a shot into the back of the cage. SVC scored three minutes later before Bollinger ended the quarter scoring with 2:19 left to complete his hat trick.
Kiviniemi started the scoring in the fourth as he cut the lead to 9-8 off another assist by Ralston with 9:42 to play. The Bearcats responded with a goal a little over a minute later to push the lead back up to two.
Hayden Carling cut the lead in half with his sixth goal of the year before Ralston found Hughes for the game-tying goal with a little under three minutes to play. The Bearcats won the next faceoff and called timeout to set up a play. They were able to score off the timeout on a unassisted goal to retake the lead. LVC had an opportunity to tie the game in the final seconds and appeared to do so as the ball found the back of the net off the stick of Kiviniemi but the refs ruled LVC had called timeout but the shot.
