IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley women's lacrosse team used a dominate second half performance to pull away from host Immaculata University on Friday afternoon in a 17-9 victory at Draper Walsh Stadium.
LVC (4-4) got off to a slow start in their first road game in nearly a month as the Mighty Macs (5-4) scored twice in the opening minute and won the first three draw controls of the game. The Dutchmen got possession of the ball for the first time after
Jamie Handwerger made a save 1:26 into the quarter. LVC cleared the ball and
Alyssa Wene scored off an assist by
Bethany Cohee to cut the lead to one. The Mighty Macs won the draw control, but the Dutchmen were able to take advantage of a turnover as Cohee fed
Emily Beard across the middle for the game-tying goal with 10:46 to go in the period.
Immaculata responded with a quick goal to retake the lead before Beard and Cohee teamed up again to even the game up. The Dutchmen took their first lead of the game with a little over six minutes to play as Beard finished off her hat trick with a free position goal. The Mighty Macs scored twice over the final 4:30 of the quarter to take a 5-4 lead.
Neither team was able to score over the first five minutes of the second quarter as they battled up and down the field. The Dutchmen broke the scoreless streak as
Hana Neff sent a pass from behind the net to Beard who put it home to tie things up at five. Immaculata won another draw control and scored two minutes later. The Dutchmen responded with a three-goal run to go up 8-6. Wene started the run with a free position goal to tie the game. The junior then gave LVC the lead with an unassisted goal a little over a minute later.
Anna Lougee then scored her first goal of the game with a little under four minutes to play in the half. Immaculata was able to score with three minutes left to cut the lead to 8-7 at the half.
The Dutchmen came out of the break and held the Mighty Macs scoreless over the first 19 minutes of the half while scoring six times to break open the game. Handwerger played a big role in keeping the Mighty Macs off the board in the span as she made six big saves including a couple on close shots with no one between her and the attacker. Lougee started the scoring in the second half with a woman-up goal 14 seconds into the period off another assist by Cohee. Beard added to the lead with an unassisted goal four minutes later.
Kyla Hebert found
Erin Zieber over the middle with just under nine to play before Beard scored on a free position goal. Hebert rounded out the scoring in the quarter as she fired a shot into the back of the net off an assist by Wene with a little over three minutes to play.
Wene gave the Dutchmen a 14-7 advantage three minutes into the fourth quarter as Cohee recorded another assist. The Mighty Macs finally got on the board in the half with just under 11 minutes to play with a woman-up goal. LVC responded by winning the draw and Wene fired home a shot 30 seconds later to bring the lead back up to seven.
