GLENSIDE, Pa. – Luis Garcia's 18 points led three scorers in double figures for the Lebanon Valley College men's basketball team, as the program dropped a hard-fought 75-73 game to Arcadia University on Saturday, Feb. 17 at Alumni Gymnasium in its final matchup of the season.
The Knights opened the scoring in the contest, taking a 6-2 lead 2:39 into the first half. The Dutchmen responded with a successful jumper by
Ryan Harder, making it a 6-4 game with 15:52 to go in the opening stanza. Arcadia then scored three points before Harder knocked down another jump shot for Lebanon Valley, advancing the score to 9-6 with 13:26 left. The Knights followed this with a 6-2 stretch, taking a 15-8 advantage with 11:28 remaining. The Flying Dutchmen answered with a layup and a three-pointer by Garcia, narrowing their deficit to 15-13 with 10:55 to play.
The programs proceeded to go back and forth offensively over the next 1:51, exchanging baskets until Arcadia was ahead 20-18 with 9:04 left. During this span,
Karson Pavlik connected on a three and
Evin Timochenko made a layup. The Knights then scored seven consecutive points, making it a 27-18 contest with 6:59 remaining in the first half.
Kyle Tang followed this with a layup before Arcadia closed out the first half on a 17-8 run, taking a 44-28 advantage into halftime. Lebanon Valley scored in this stretch on a pair of free throws and a three-pointer by
Tyson Hofsass, as well as a three by
Evan Smith.
The Knights began the second half with a 9-2 run, advancing the score to 53-30 with 17:02 to play in the stanza. The Dutchmen responded with six consecutive points, trimming its deficit to 53-36 with 15:44 remaining. During this stretch, Harder and Garcia both connected on jumpers before Hofsass knocked down a couple of foul shots. The squads then battled for over two minutes, swapping points until Arcadia led 63-44 with 12:50 left.
Lebanon Valley followed this by delivering a dominant 20-4 run, narrowing the score to 67-64 with 7:10 to go in the second half. In this key stretch, Garcia scored seven points and Harder tallied six. Garcia came through with an important three-pointer with 10:53 to go before converting a pair of layups during the rest of the run. Harder capped off the stretch by connecting on a jumper with just over seven minutes to go, making it a three-point game.
The Knights responded with a jump shot, but the Dutchmen answered right back with a three by Harder to make it a 69-67 contest with 4:55 remaining in the second. Garcia then drew a foul and made both free throws to even the score at 69-69 with 4:17 to play. Arcadia followed this with a layup, but
Braden Bohannon promptly knocked down a jump shot to tie the game at 71-71 with 2:50 left. The Knights then scored four straight points, but the Flying Dutchmen countered with a layup by Timochenko to advance the score to 75-73 with 48 seconds to go. Ultimately, this would stand as the final score.
Inside the Box Score
- Garcia led the Dutchmen with 18 points while recording two rebounds and a pair of assists. The graduate student guard made a game-high seven field goals during the contest.
- Timochenko scored 17 points and posted a team-high nine rebounds. The junior forward also went 5-for-5 on free throw attempts, tying for the team-most.
- Harder tallied 16 points with five rebounds, two assists, one block, and a steal. The junior guard made five free throws as well, tying for the team-high.
- Tang tied for a game-high two steals and scored four points with a pair of rebounds.
- Smith led the team with three assists while registering three points, two rebounds, and a steal.
- LVC outscored Arcadia 45-31 in the second half.
- Lebanon Valley scored 24 points in the paint and 10 points off turnovers.
- The Flying Dutchmen went 16-for-17 on free throw attempts.
The program's valiant effort against the Knights was the final game of the 2023-24 season for the Dutchmen.
