Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Timochenko Leads Men’s Basketball with 29 Points at Wilson

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – Evin Timochenko scored a game-high 29 points for the Lebanon Valley Men's Basketball team on Saturday but a last second three-pointer gave the host Wilson College a 72-71 victory over the Dutchmen at Gannett Field House in Chambersburg.

LVC led for over 35 minutes in the game starting with Wil Laskowski finding Timochenko open in the paint for the first two points of the game on the first possession. The Phoenix knocked down a pair of threes to take a 6-4 lead, but Ryan Harder had back-to-back scores on a jumper and three-pointer off assists from Laskowski to put LVC up 9-6. Kyle Tang grabbed a defensive rebound and found Timochenko streaking up the court for a fastbreak bucket and then Harder scored in transition to increase the lead to seven and force the Phoenix to call the first timeout of the game.

Wilson stopped the run with a three before Timochenko and Harder scored on layups to give the Dutchmen the biggest lead of the game at 17-9. The lead was still eight when Wilson used a 5-0 run over two possessions to get within three points. Harder hit a three on the right wing to stop the run. The Phoenix used the long ball and shots at the line to eventually tie the game up at 26 with 7:16 left in the half. The Dutchmen had a quick response as Timochenko scored while being fouled on a layup and then sank the free throw. Neither team scored over a three-minute stretch until Jason Penn knocked down two free throws with 2:30 left. Another Wilson three-pointer got the Phoenix within two before Timochenko hit two foul shots right before halftime to give the Dutchmen a 35-31 lead.

The Dutchmen started the second half strong holding the Phoenix scoreless over the first two minutes and getting a pair of buckets in the paint from Timochenko. Wilson responded with a quick five points to get back within three. Timochenko and Harder sandwiched a Phoenix layup before a three-pointer by the hosts made it a two-point game at 43-41. Harder countered with a pull-up jumper in the paint to give the Dutchmen a four-point advantage five minutes into the half. The Phoenix got the lead down to one when Evan Smith scored on a driving layup and then Karson Pavlik hit a jumper near the top of the key to make it a five-point game.

The Phoenix responded with a 7-0 run over a two-minute span to take a 51-49 advantage. The lead was short-lived as Michael Main knocked down a three at the top of the key on the Dutchmen's next trip down the floor. LVC got a pair of stops on defense while Timochenko hit a jumper and then Main knocked down another three in transition to put the Dutchmen up by six. LVC held Wilson without a made field goal over the next couple of minutes but three made free throws were able to cut the lead down to three. The Dutchmen led by just two at 63-61 with four minutes to play when Smith hit a three-pointer. Penn then stole the ball and Timochenko put back his own miss to give LVC a 68-71 advantage with three minutes left.

Wilson knocked down a three, Penn scored on driving layup, and then the Phoenix hit another three to get within three at 70-67. The lead was still three with a minute left when Penn grabbed a defensive rebound. LVC held onto the ball for the whole length of the shot clock giving Wilson the ball with a little over 10 seconds to play. The Dutchmen fouled and the Phoenix knocked down both free throws to get within one. Tang inbounded the ball to Penn who was fouled right away with 6.3 seconds left. Penn calmly made his first free throw but missed his second. The Phoenix grabbed the rebound and pushed the ball up court and found an open shooter in the corner for the game-winning shot.
