Mack Records Season-High 10 Kills in Regular Season Finale at Misericordia

DALLAS, Pa. – Riley Mack had a season-high 10 kills as the Lebanon Valley Volleyball team dropped the regular season finale 3-1 at Misericordia University on Wednesday evening inside the Anderson Center in Dallas.
 
The Cougars (23-7, 5-2 MAC Freedom) won the first set 25-21. LVC (15-12, 5-2 MAC Freedom) took the second set 25-19. Misericordia won the third and fourth sets by scores of 25-18 and 25-17.
 
Misericordia won four of the first six points of the match. Mack recorded her first kill of the night and then Jasmine Sullivan served up an ace to tie the set at four. The teams battled back and forth, and the Dutchmen took their first lead of the match at 7-6 following a Teaguen Reynolds kill. The Cougars responded with a 6-1 run to take a 13-8 lead. Misericordia led 17-12 when a service error and two more aces by Sullivan cut the advantage down to two points. Mack had a kill and an ace as the Dutchmen tied the set at 18. Misericordia countered with a 7-3 run to win the set.
 
The Dutchmen started off the second set with four of the first six points. Misericordia tied the set up with consecutive points before a Mack kill and Sullivan ace gave LVC a two-point edge. The Cougars scored the next four points, and the Dutchmen responded with a 5-0 run with Mack serving to take an 11-8 advantage. Mattea Penner led the charge with two kills during the run. The Cougars were able to cut the deficit down to 15-14 before a Mack kill and three consecutive attack errors gave LVC a 19-14 advantage. Jillian Jefferys and Libby Lindau had kills to push the lead to 22-16. The teams split the final six points as LVC evened the match up at one set apiece.
 
The third set started similar to the second with LVC winning four of the first six points and then Misericordia tying the match up with consecutive points. The Cougars continued their run to take an 8-5 advantage. The Dutchmen won four of the next five points to even the set up at nine. The Cougars won the next two points and maintained the two-point lead until a Sullivan kill made it 17-16. Misericordia won the next five points and closed the set with eight of the final 10 points to go up 2-1.
 
Misericordia got out to a strong start in the fourth set winning seven of the first 10 points. The grew the lead to 13-7 before Reynolds had a kill and a block to bring the Dutchmen within three at 13-10. The teams traded two-point rallies until kills by Mack and Lindau made it 17-14. Misericordia won the next three points and five of six points to make it 22-15. A service error and a Penner kill cut the lead to five but the cougars scored the next three points to win the match.
 
Inside the Box
  • Penner had another double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs.
  • Mack finished with a season-high 10 kills and added six digs, a block, and a service ace.
  • Lindau had six kills and two total blocks.
  • Sullivan led the team with 16 assists and four aces.
  • Sofia Okronley had 11 assists and eight digs while Abigail Souder recorded eight digs.

The Dutchmen enter the MAC Freedom Championship as the fourth seed and will play top-seeded Stevens Institute of Technology next Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Hoboken, N.J.
