DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College Men's Soccer team battled tough against Delaware Valley University in its last matchup of the regular season, but dropped a 1-0 contest on Saturday, Nov. 2 at
Robert A. Lipinski Field at James Work Memorial Stadium.
The Dutchmen and the Aggies battled defensively early in the first half, as neither program took a shot for over 17 minutes at the start. Lebanon Valley recorded the first shot of the afternoon, as
Will Burton put an attempt on goal that was saved at the 17:19 mark. Delaware Valley countered with a shot on goal 19:29 into the contest, but goalkeeper
Dalton Fitterling was there to make the save for LVC.
The Flying Dutchmen also worked to generate offensive opportunities as the opening half progressed, as
Matthew Weinstock-Collins sent a ball toward the net that was saved at the 31:10 mark. This was followed by
Aaron Weitzel taking a shot for LVC, which was saved 31:58 into the match. Defensively, Fitterling came through with another important stop at the 37:59 mark to keep things scoreless. The programs entered halftime in a 0-0 tie.
The defenses of both teams remained dominant when the second half got underway, as the squads prevented each other from taking a shot for nearly 13 minutes at the start of the stanza. The Aggies then tallied three shots during a period of 27 seconds that started in the 58
th minute, but Lebanon Valley kept the opposition off the board during this stretch. The Flying Dutchmen followed this with a scoring chance, as Weitzel sent a shot to the left of the net at the 60:08 mark.
Fitterling continued his productive afternoon as half two progressed, registering his third save 67:17 into the game. Delaware Valley then got on the scoreboard at the 77:57 mark, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by Zachary Zub. The Dutchmen continued to battle as the stanza went on, as Fitterling made two more saves at the 81:27 and 87:07 marks. The goalkeeper also took a shot for Lebanon Valley, which went to the right of the net with 39 seconds remaining. Ultimately, Delaware Valley's 1-0 advantage was maintained through the end of play.
