Dutchmen Women’s Ice Hockey Edges Wilkes for Fifth Straight Win

HERSHEY, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College Women's Ice Hockey team continued its excellent start to the season, posting its fifth consecutive victory by defeating Wilkes University 1-0 on Saturday, Nov. 16 at Hersheypark Arena. Jess Dawe netted the game-winning goal for the Flying Dutchmen, while goaltender Mia Frisoni delivered 49 saves in a shutout performance.

The Dutchmen (5-0-0, 4-0-0 MAC) generated some offensive opportunities early in the first period, as Sky Campanile took a shot that was saved at the 1:36 mark before Alexis Oukes tallied an attempt that was saved at the 2:29 mark. Lebanon Valley's defense kept the Colonels (3-3-0, 2-2-0 MAC) from taking a shot until 4:22 into the frame, which resulted in a save by Frisoni. This was followed by more shots on goal from the Flying Dutchmen, as Maeghan Howson's try was saved at the 5:48 mark before Campanile's shot was saved at the 6:04 mark.

Howson also contributed to LVC's efforts on the defensive end, blocking a shot 8:18 into the opening period before Frisoni made a save five seconds later. The goaltender then had another important stop at the 10:10 mark, and Norah McCauliffe blocked a shot nine seconds later. In the 12th minute, Campanile and Oukes each registered a block within eight seconds. Lebanon Valley kept sending the puck toward the net as well, as Brysha Schmidt put a pair of attempts on goal that were saved within seven seconds in the 16th minute. Frisoni also remained dominant as the period went on, posting six more saves in the final minutes of the first. The goalie made a save with just 16 seconds left to preserve the scoreless tie.

Wilkes was aggressive offensively early in the second period while it was finishing a power play, as Frisoni made four saves for LVC within the first 57 seconds. The Dutchmen countered with a shot on goal by Leela Nemani that was saved at the 1:19 mark. The teams followed this by continuing to battle defensively, as Erin Yorke blocked a shot 6:28 into the second. Lebanon Valley also kept working to create scoring chances as the period progressed, as Anna Dale took a shot that was saved at the 6:57 mark before Nemani's attempt was saved at the 8:16 mark.

Frisoni remained dominant as the second period rolled on, making saves at the 8:24, 12:02, and 12:59 marks. The Flying Dutchmen continued to tally shots as well, as Tiffany Anderson, Cheyenne Wilk, Yorke, Laura Radford, and Nemani each took shots on goal that were saved in the 15th minute. The Colonels also kept sending the puck toward the net, as Frisoni logged three more saves in the remaining minutes of period two. Offensively, Schmidt registered LVC's last shot of the second with an attempt that was saved at the 18:25 mark.

Frisoni kept working to limit the Colonels when the third period got underway, posting three saves for the Dutchmen in the first two minutes. Lebanon Valley then got on the scoreboard 2:08 into the third, taking a 1-0 lead over Wilkes. The program broke the scoreless tie with a goal by Dawe, courtesy of an assist by Nemani. The Colonels countered with shots on goal at the 2:17 and 4:14 marks, but Frisoni was there to make stops on each attempt. The Flying Dutchmen also had several defensive contributors as the frame went on, as McCauliffe, Radford, and Wilk each blocked a shot within a period of 1:32 that began in the sixth minute.

Later in the third period, Frisoni came through with more key saves at the 9:06 and 9:17 marks. This was followed by Dawe and Oukes both blocking a shot within five seconds in the 10th minute, before Dawe registered two more blocks at the 9:58 and 10:02 marks. Frisoni also kept limiting the opposition as the third went on, making more stops 13:10 into the frame and 13:20 into the period. The goaltender proceeded to make 14 more important saves for Lebanon Valley in the remaining minutes of the contest.
