WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Harris Blackwood netted a goal for the Lebanon Valley College Men's Ice Hockey team, as the program dropped a 4-1 game to Wilkes University on Saturday, Nov. 16 at the Toyota SportsPlex.
The Dutchmen took the first shot on goal of the game 2:08 into the first period, as
Tanner Tolliver sent a puck toward the net that was saved.
Jordan Stear and
Haralds Jirgens then both registered attempts that were saved within nine seconds in the third minute. Lebanon Valley's offense followed this with shots on goal by
Aidan Bright,
Cade Helmer, and
Ethan Hoover that were saved within 14 seconds in the fifth minute. Defensively,
Mac Diver blocked a shot by the Colonels at the 5:22 mark before goaltender
Jadon Lee made his first save three seconds later. The goalie then made stops 8:08 into the first and at the 10:11 mark.
Wilkes went on a power play that started in the 12
th minute and took shots at the 11:22 and 11:51 marks, resulting in two saves by Lee. The Dutchmen also worked to generate some offensive opportunities as the opening period progressed, as Jirgens recorded a shot that was saved 15:08 into the frame. Blackwood then took a shot on goal that was stopped at the 17:23 mark. Back on the defensive end, Lee posted five saves for LVC in the final two minutes of the period. The goaltender came through with three clutch saves in a stretch of six seconds in the 19
th minute.
Lebanon Valley created some scoring chances early in the second period, as Jirgens,
Ian Lindberg,
Cade Freer, and Tolliver each tallied shots on goal that were saved within the first 3:26. The Flying Dutchmen also kept battling defensively, as
Reece McDonald blocked a shot by the Colonels 4:03 into the second before Lee made saves at the 4:27 and 6:01 marks. This was followed by
Blake Dustin blocking a shot 8:04 into the period, and Lee logging another stop 34 seconds later. Wilkes then opened the scoring 9:09 into the second, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by Carter Jordan.
The Dutchmen created a couple of opportunities during a power play that began in the 11
th minute, as Helmer took a shot that was saved at the 11:29 mark before Hoover's attempt was saved 12:02 into the second. Lee also kept working to limit the opposition as the period progressed, registering saves at the 13:10, 14:56, and 15:36 marks. Lebanon Valley continued to send the puck toward the net as well, as
Max Kontir took a shot that was saved 15:47 into the period, and McDonald tallied an attempt that was saved with 51 seconds left. The Colonels scored again with 16 seconds remaining in the second period, taking a 2-0 advantage on another goal by Jordan.
Wilkes kept recording shots on goal when the third period got underway, but Lee responded with four stops in the first 2:44 of the frame. The Dutchmen countered with an attempt by
Troy Andrews that was saved at the 3:08 mark before Blackwood's shot was saved at the 4:33 mark. The programs then proceeded to go back and forth defensively as the period progressed. Lebanon Valley received defensive contributions from several players, as
Dylan Miller blocked a shot at the 9:01 mark, while Lindberg and Blackwood each had a block within 16 seconds in the 12
th minute. Lee also later made a pair of saves within five seconds in the 14
th minute.
The Colonels found the net again 13:49 into the third period, making it a 3-0 game on a power-play goal by Lorenzo Marcolin. The Dutchmen also sent more shots toward the net as the frame went on, as Andrews had an attempt that was saved at the 14:55 mark before Miller's try was saved 16:10 into the frame. Lee kept battling as well, registering four saves for LVC in the 18
th minute. Lebanon Valley got on the scoreboard at the 18:35 mark, narrowing the score to 3-1. The program made it a two-point contest on an unassisted goal by Blackwood. Wilkes followed this by tacking on a point with 48 seconds to go, as an empty-net goal by Jordan prompted the final score to be 4-1.
