Women’s Tennis Splits Singles Matches in Fall Dual Finale

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley Women's Tennis team won three of the six singles matches on Thursday in a close 4-3 defeat to Penn State Harrisburg at the Shankroff Tennis Center.
 
The Lions (2-2) won all three doubles matches to earn the first point of the match. Harrisburg then won the first three courts in singles to take a 4-0 lead and clinch the match victory. LVC (1-3) won the back three courts.
 
Inside the Box
  • Jenna Miner gave the Dutchmen their first point of the match with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at number five singles for her first win of the season. Miner lost the first two points of the first set before rallying to win the next four. In the second set she got out to a 2-0 lead and won the final three points of the set.
  • Emily Bryant needed three sets and a tiebreaker to earn her first career win. After dropping the first set 6-1, the first-year won the second set 6-4 and then the third set 7-6 with a 7-4 score in the tiebreaker. Bryant was down 4-3 in the second set before winning three straight points to force the third set. She was down in 4-3 in the third set as well and won the next two points to take the lead.
  • Laken Kelly was the last match to finish as the first-year needed just over two hours to win 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-5) to improve to 3-0 at number six. She won the first three points in the first set to take an early lead before needing a tiebreaker to win the set. In the second set she was down 4-2 and then 6-5 before rallying for another tiebreaker win.
  • Erika Badner dropped a tough three-setter at number two singles. She won the first set 7-5 but then dropped the next two sets by scores of 6-2 and 6-4.
  • Badner and Katie Berra were defeated in a tiebreaker at number two doubles 7-6 (7-4). The duo rallied to force the tiebreaker after dropping the first three points of the match.
Up Next
The fall dual season is complete for the Dutchmen. LVC will compete one last time this fall as they host the Co-Ed Dutchmen Invitational on Sunday at the Unlimited Tennis Academy in Media. Play will start at 8:30 a.m. in the team competition against Catholic University and Wilkes University.
