Dutchmen Volleyball Clinches Postseason Berth with Senior Night Sweep

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley Volleyball team clinched a spot in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Championships on Wednesday evening with a 3-0 victory over Delaware Valley University on Senior Night at Sorrentino Gymnasium.
 
The Dutchmen won by scores of 25-19, 25-14, and 25-16 to keep pace atop the conference standings. LVC won its fifth consecutive conference match to improve to 5-1 in MAC Freedom play heading into the final conference matchup of the regular season. The Dutchmen are improved to 8-2 in Sorrentino Gymnasium with no more home matches scheduled.
 
The Aggies scored the first two points of the match. Mattea Penner and Taylor McInerney sandwiched a DVU attack error to put the Dutchmen up by one. The teams traded points until three consecutive points on a Libby Lindau kill, a Penner kill, and a block assist by Lindau and Margaret Cole put LVC up 8-5. The Aggies scored five of the next seven points to tie the set up at 10. McInerney and Lindau had a pair of kills before two attack errors gave LVC a 16-12 advantage. DVU cut it down to one before Lyla Arfanella served up a pair of aces to make it a four-point lead. The Dutchmen were able to close out the set by scoring six of the final 10 points. McInerney had five kills on eight attacks in the set while Lindau had four on six attacks.
 
Delaware Valley scored first in the second set and the teams traded the first 10 points of the set. Del Val scored consecutive points to take a 7-5 lead before the Dutchmen responded with a big 5-0 run that ended on a Sofia Okronley service ace. Riley Mack had a kill, Reynolds and McInerney teamed up for a block, and the Penner served an ace to give LVC a 13-8 lead. The lead was at four points when LVC used a big 8-1 rally to put the set out of reach. The set was won on a service error four points later. Mack led the attack with four kills on six attacks in the set while McInerney and Lindau had three apiece. Abigail Souder had five digs, and the Dutchmen hit .364 during the set.
 
Penner gave the Dutchmen a 1-0 lead with the first point of the third set. The Aggies scored the next four and held a 5-2 advantage before a pair of kills from McInerney cut the lead down to one. Jasmine Sullivan tied the set up with an ace and three points later Cole and Lindau gave the Dutchmen the first lead of the set with a block. Penner and Reynolds had consecutive kills to make it 10-8 in favor of LVC. The Dutchmen grew the lead to 15-10 with five of the next seven points. Sullivan got the lead up to seven at 19-12 with two more service aces. DVU scored three consecutive points to cut the lead to four as LVC called its only timeout of the night. The Dutchmen responded by putting the match away with six of the next seven points. Penner and McInerney had five kills each during the set while Souder was great defensively with 10 digs.
 
Inside the Box
  • McInerney finished with 13 kills and a .522 hitting percentage. The outside hitter added two digs and a block assist to her stat line.
  • Souder had 17 digs, four assists, and two aces.
  • Penner had 10 kills for her 13th match this year with at least 10 kills. She also had seven digs.
  • Lindau added eight kills and three block assists.
  • Sullivan had 14 assists and three aces while Okronley added 19 assists and six digs.
  • Reynolds recorded five total blocks. It is the fifth time this season she has recorded at least five blocks in a match, and she has done so in each of the past three conference matches.
  • Arfanella had eight digs and four aces.
Up Next
The Dutchmen will close out the regular season on the road starting on Saturday with a trip to South Jersey to face Rowan University at 1 p.m. in Glassboro.
