Dutchmen Men's Soccer Delivers Strong Defensive Effort Against Stevens

ANNVILLE, Pa. Goalkeeper Dalton Fitterling registered five saves for the Lebanon Valley College Men's Soccer team, as the program dropped a hard-fought 1-0 game to Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday, Oct. 26 at Herbert Field.

This contest was a defensive battle from the start, as the Dutchmen and Ducks went back and forth during the first half. Stevens took three shots within the first five minutes, including the first shot on goal of the afternoon, which was saved by Fitterling 4:41 into the match. The goalie made another important save for Lebanon Valley at the 5:52 mark, keeping things scoreless. Offensively, the Flying Dutchmen countered with a shot on goal by Aidan Negron that was saved 9:11 into the game.

The programs followed this by competing on the defensive end for the next 12:12, as neither squad took a shot over this stretch. Stevens then created an offensive opportunity with a shot on goal at the 21:23 mark, which resulted in another save by Fitterling. Lebanon Valley also worked to create scoring chances as the opening half went on, as Negron registered a shot that went to the left of the net at the 28:36 mark. The teams proceeded to go back and forth defensively through the remainder of the first, prompting the squads to enter halftime in a 0-0 tie.

The Dutchmen generated some opportunities on the offensive end at the start of the second half, taking four shots within the first seven minutes of the stanza. Negron registered the first attempt of the half, taking a shot that went above the net 2:03 into the frame. Lucas Strange also contributed to these efforts for LVC, taking a pair of shots within 14 seconds in the 51st minute. Strange followed this with a shot that went over the upper-left corner of the net at the 51:39 mark.

The defenses of both teams continued their dominance as half two progressed, preventing each other from taking a shot until there were just over seven minutes left in the match. Fitterling kept his productive afternoon going by making clutch saves at the 82:49 and 87:56 marks, maintaining the scoreless tie.
