Fitzpatrick Nets 22 Points for Women’s Basketball Against Arcadia

ANNVILLE, Pa. ­­– Kate Fitzpatrick scored 22 points for the Lebanon Valley College women's basketball team on Saturday, Jan. 20, as the program dropped a 67-46 contest to Arcadia University at Sorrentino Gymnasium. The Dutchmen hosted their annual Pink Game during Saturday's matchup.

The Flying Dutchmen got their offense rolling early in the game, jumping out to a 7-3 lead against the Knights just under three minutes into the first quarter. Samya Santiague opened the scoring with a three-pointer before Cristina Fernandez and Riley Hevelow both made jumpers. The teams then went back and forth defensively over the next couple of minutes, before Hevelow knocked down another jumper to extend LVC's advantage to 9-3 with 5:26 remaining in the frame.

Arcadia responded with a 10-0 run, taking a 13-9 lead with 2:21 to go in the opening quarter. Lebanon Valley answered with a pull-up jumper by Fitzpatrick, making it a two-point contest with 1:53 left in the quarter. The Knights then closed out the first with five consecutive points, advancing the score to 18-11 after 10 minutes of play. 

The programs battled defensively at the beginning of the second quarter, maintaining the score for nearly two minutes at the start. Each squad then added two points, making it a 20-13 game with 7:26 remaining. The Dutchmen followed this with a 9-2 run, tying the contest at 22-22 with 5:06 to go in the first half. Fitzpatrick recorded each of LVC's nine points during this stretch, including the three-pointer that evened the score. 

The Knights then went on an 11-2 run, taking a 33-24 advantage with 2:21 left in the second quarter. Both teams worked to create offensive chances during the final minutes of the half before the Flying Dutchmen had the opportunity to take the last shot of the stanza. Jordan Zimmerman took this shot and swished a jumper for LVC as time expired, narrowing the score to 33-26 as the game entered halftime. 

Lebanon Valley struck first in half two, beginning the third quarter on a 5-0 run to make it a 33-31 contest with 7:39 remaining. Fitzpatrick knocked down a step-back three just 16 seconds into the frame, before converting a pair of free throws. Arcadia followed this with a 10-0 stretch, taking a 43-31 lead with 4:44 to go.

The Dutchmen answered with another three-pointer by Fitzpatrick, trimming the Knights' advantage to 43-34 with 4:11 left in the third. Arcadia then closed out the quarter with a 6-5 run, advancing its lead 49-39 entering the final frame. During this stretch, Lebanon Valley scored its five points on a jumper by Hevelow and a three by Fitzpatrick.

The Flying Dutchmen opened the scoring early in the fourth quarter, making it a 49-41 contest just 27 seconds into the frame on a jumper by Brielle Reidinger. The Knights then went on a 6-1 run, extending their advantage to 55-42 with 6:55 remaining. Alyssa Reisinger responded with a successful jumper 36 seconds later, before Arcadia closed out the game with a 12-4 stretch in the remaining minutes. 

Inside the Box Score
  • Fitzpatrick scored a game-high 22 points with five three-pointers while leading Lebanon Valley with two steals as well. The senior guard also tied for a team-most two blocks and recorded four rebounds with a pair of assists. 
  • Reidinger led the Flying Dutchmen with seven rebounds and three assists, while also registering three points and a steal. 
  • Hevelow tallied six points with three rebounds and an assist.
  • Reisinger also posted six points with a pair of rebounds and an assist.
  • Zimmerman scored four points with four rebounds and an assist.
  • LVC recorded six blocks and six steals during the contest.

Lebanon Valley will return to the court at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 24, as the program will host King's College (Pa.) at Sorrentino Gymnasium.
