HERSHEY, Pa. – Brenden Yingling scored a goal for the Lebanon Valley College men's ice hockey team on Saturday, Jan. 13, as the program dropped a 4-1 game to No. 15 Stevenson University at Hersheypark Arena.
The Dutchmen and Mustangs went back and forth defensively early in the first period, keeping the game scoreless for over 10 minutes at the start. Goaltender
Jadon Lee contributed to these efforts, making seven saves within the first 7:40. LVC also blocked three shots during the frame, as
Jordan Stear,
Mason Proskin, and
Artem Mikhaylov all recorded blocks.
Lebanon Valley also worked to generate scoring chances throughout the first, attempting eight shots on goal. The squad took three shots within 20 seconds in a stretch that began at the end of the eighth minute, as
Ethan Hoover had two attempts and Stear sent the puck toward the net. Stevenson opened the scoring 11:56 into the opening period, taking a 1-0 advantage on a goal by Liam McCanney. Lee then saved all four shots by the Mustangs during the remainder of the frame.
The programs limited each other at the beginning of the second period as well, keeping the opposition off the board through the first eight minutes. The Dutchmen created offensive opportunities during this stretch, taking eight shots on goal. Stevenson then resumed the scoring with a goal by Rhett Evjen 8:01 into the frame, before Frank Vitucci scored 58 seconds later to make it a 3-0 contest. LVC continued to send shots toward the net as the period went on, tallying seven attempts on goal during the remaining minutes.
Lebanon Valley kept battling defensively in the third period, holding Stevenson to just two shots on goal for over 10 minutes at the start. Lee made these two saves within the first 4:05 of the frame. The Flying Dutchmen then got on the scoreboard 8:41 into the third, narrowing the score to 3-1. Yingling sent a shot past the goaltender for a power-play goal, following assists by
Cade Helmer and
Harris Blackwood.
The Mustangs responded 11:13 into the frame, advancing the score to 4-1 on a penalty shot goal by Zach Bannister. The Dutchmen continued to compete during the final minutes of the game, as
Blake Tosto and Hoover both took shots on goal. Ultimately, the score was maintained through the end of the contest.
