ANNVILLE, Pa. – Taylor McInerney tied the program record for kills in a match with 35 to lead the Lebanon Valley volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over Dickinson in the team's first home match of the year inside Sorrentino Gymnasium on Wednesday evening.
The Dutchmen (2-3) won by scores of 25-19, 25-17, 22-25, 29-27 over the Red Devils (1-3) in front of a large crowd. Dickinson got off to a strong start in the first set building a 7-2 lead. The Red Devils lead 10-6 before four straight points including three kills by McInerney tied the match at 10. LVC used another big four-point rally to take a 20-15 lead. McInerney closed out the set with three more kills giving the Dutchmen a 1-0 lead in the match.
Robyn Stepler had a big first set with 14 assists while McInerney finished with 10 kills.
LVC scored the first two points of the second set and led for the entirety of the set. The Red Devils kept it close for most of the set never trailing by more than three points until The Dutchmen closed the set strong scoring eight of the final 10 points including the last five. Stepler added 13 more assists in the second set as McInerney had six kills and
Margaret Cole added four on five attacks.
The Red Devils began the third set on a 6-3 run and led by as many as 11-6. The Dutchmen used three consecutive kills by McInerney to cut the lead back down to two points. Two kills by
Mattea Penner and a Dickinson attack error tied the score at 16. The Red Devils responded with the next three points to retake the lead. LVC was unable to get any closer the rest of the set as Dickinson extended the match with a 25-22 set win. Stepler had another great set with 14 assists and McInerney had eight kills.
The fourth set was a back-and-forth affair as the Red Devils started with the first four points. LVC fought back and took their first lead of the set at 7-6 following a service ace from Stepler. The Dutchmen scored five of the next eight points to build a 12-9 lead before three consecutive points by Dickinson tied things up. Dickinson used a 6-1 rally to take a 21-17 lead in the set. The Red Devils were on set point at 24-22 before Cole and McInerney came up with big kills to tie things up. The teams traded points until Mcinerney gave LVC match point with a kill and then a service ace.
Kelli Heffer ended the match with a big kill on the left side.
Inside the Box
- McInerney had a career high 35 kills and tied the program record held by Natalie Goodfellow in 2006. McInerney hit a season-high .456 and added two aces.
- Stepler also moved into the record books recording the fifth-most assists in a match with 59. She also had two solo blocks, a block assist, and seven digs.
- Heffer and Penner finished with double digit kills as Heffer recorded 11 and Penner had 10.
- Kasey Thomas led the team with 16 digs and Devyn had 12.
- As a team the Dutchmen hit a season-best .282.

LVC will play in their second invitational of the season this weekend at Muhlenberg College. The Dutchmen will face Ursinus College at 5 p.m. and Eastern University at 7 p.m. on Friday night during day one of the Buttermaker Tournament.
