ANNVILLE, Pa. – Sophomore
Rebecca Lane scored two goals in the Lebanon Valley College field hockey team's 4-2 victory over McDaniel College on Wednesday at Arnold Field.
Lebanon Valley (3-3) and McDaniel (1-3) went back-and-forth early in this game, as each program put a pair of points on the scoreboard in the first quarter. The squads went into halftime tied, but the Flying Dutchmen registered a pair of goals in the second half to secure the win. LVC received offensive contributions from several players, as six Dutchmen registered points.
Lebanon Valley opened the scoring 3:21 into the first quarter, taking an early 1-0 lead against McDaniel. Lane found the back of the cage to get the team on the board, courtesy of an assist by junior
Jenna Angstadt. The Green Terror then evened the score 12:46 into the contest, making it a 1-1 game on a goal by Morgan Collins.
The Flying Dutchmen answered back just 45 second later, taking a 2-1 advantage. First-year midfielder
Claire Weidenhammer reclaimed LVC's lead with her first career goal, following an assist by senior
Bridget Rutkowski. The Green Terror then tied things up before the end of the first frame, as Cassidy Cashman advanced the score to 2-2 with a goal 14:15 into the first.
The defenses of both squads dominated in the second quarter, as each team took just one shot in the period. Sophomore goalkeeper
Lauren Jancsarics picked up her second save of the night during this stretch, saving a shot 7:19 into the frame. Lebanon Valley and McDaniel entered halftime tied at 2-2.
The Dutchmen got their offense going early in the third quarter, going ahead 3-2 just 5:16 into the period. Lane put the team back in front with her second goal of the game, after an assist by sophomore
Gracie Johnson.
Lebanon Valley tacked on an insurance point in the fourth quarter, extending its lead to 4-2 with just 6:34 remaining in the contest. Senior
Emily Kline sent a shot to the back of the cage to give LVC a two-goal advantage. Kline's first goal of the year was also assisted by Johnson. The Dutchmen kept the opposition from scoring during the final minutes, holding on to secure the win.
