ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley football team opened the 2023 season on Friday evening under the lights of Arnold Field for just the second time in program history. Franklin & Marshall used a big 10-point third quarter to defeat the Dutchmen 16-12 in a tightly contested affair.
The Dutchmen opened the scoring early, taking a 3-0 lead with 9:05 remaining in the first quarter.
Tim Kissinger got LVC on the scoreboard by sending a 40-yard field goal attempt through the uprights. The Diplomats then responded with 6:37 left in the frame, tying the game at 3-3 with a 35-yard field goal.
Lebanon Valley reclaimed the advantage at the start of the second quarter, taking a 9-3 lead over Franklin & Marshall. Junior linebacker Brody Robinson came through with a big 42-yard interception return for a touchdown to put the program ahead. LVC took this six-point lead into halftime.
The Diplomats took their first lead of the game with 10 points in the third quarter. Franklin & Marshall made it a 13-9 ballgame by completing a two-yard touchdown pass and making a 34-yard field goal.
The Dutchmen cut the deficit down to 13-12 on a 23-yard field goal by Kissinger with 7:25 on the clock in the fourth. Sophomore kicker
Brian Dym then executed a perfectly placed surprise onside kick to give Lebanon Valley the ball back. However, the Diplomats got a few stops on defense and ran the ball down the field. Franklin & Marshall added some insurance points with just 1:13 to go in the contest, converting a 36-yard field goal to extend its lead to 16-12. A last minute drive by the Dutchmen fell short as the Diplomats hung on for the victory.

- Offensively, Lebanon Valley recorded 177 passing yards and gained 124 rushing yards.
- Junior quarterback Braden Bohannon threw for 113 yards.
- Robinson scored his first career touchdown when he returned his interception 42 yards to the end zone in the second quarter.
- Sophomore wide receiver Alex Vassallo led the Dutchmen with 56 receiving yards.
- Sophomore tailback Dion Bryant led LVC with 45 rushing yards.
- Kissinger converted two field goal attempts.
- Senior defensive end Noah Caldani led Lebanon Valley with 11 total tackles.
- Junior linebacker Jacob Horton and senior defensive tackle Jake Marcus each registered a sack.

The Dutchmen will begin conference play at 1 p.m. next Saturday, as the team will travel to take on Stevenson University at Mustang Stadium in Owings Mills, Md.
