Sixth Inning Rallies Fall Short as Softball Finishes Runner-up at MAC Commonwealth Tournament

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley softball team put together a pair of sixth inning rallies but dropped a pair of heart-breaking one-runs games to York College of Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon in the Championship Round of the Middle Atlantic Conference Championship at the LVC Softball Park. The Spartans won game one 4-3 and then took game two 5-4 to earn the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Game One
LVC (32-8) scored first in the game as Sam Burns led off with an infield single to short and stole second. She came around to score on a throwing error by the Spartan third baseman. York (22-19) tied the game up in the second inning on two hits and a walk. The Spartans took the lead with a big three-run third inning. The Dutchmen had back-to-back singles to begin the third and fourth innings but were unable to drive any runs in. LVC broke through in the sixth as Megan Heard led off with a single and then advanced to third on a single by Anna Marie Hockman. Maddy Gronback knocked her in with a single to left center. Three batters latter Julia Craig singled up the middle to score Smith and made it a one run game. Nicole Kratz led off the seventh with a single and the Dutchmen put runners at second and third with two outs before York was able to end the game with a groundout.
