McCurdy Leads Softball to Sweep of Stevenson

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lindsey McCurdy had five hits and knocked in four runs to lead the Lebanon Valley softball team to an important Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth sweep of Stevenson University on Friday afternoon at the LVC Softball Park. The Dutchmen won the opener 4-2 and then took the nightcap 8-0 in six innings.
 
Game One
McCurdy put the Dutchmen (17-4, 7-0 MAC Commonwealth) on the board with a double to right in the first inning to score Sam Burns. LVC increased their lead to 3-0 in the third on an RBI double to left center by Julia Craig and Samantha Weaver scoring on a fielding error. The Mustangs (13-9, 5-2 MAC Commonwealth) cut the lead down to one run in the fourth with two runs. McCurdy gave the Dutchmen an insurance run in the fifth with her second RBI double of the game.
 
Inside the Box Score
  • Jordan Walter pitched her seventh complete game of the year to earn her eighth win. She allowed seven hits and struck out one.
  • McCurdy had two doubles and two RBI.
  • Burns also had two hits and scored two runs.
  • Craig had a double, a run scored, and an RBI. In the field, she made nine putouts at first base.
  • Lexi Smith had a busy game at second with three putouts and four assists. 
Game Two
LVC (18-4, 8-0 MAC Commonwealth) started the scoring in the second inning as Burns knocked in Maddy Gronback with a single to left. Nicole Kratz made it 2-0 in the fourth with a leadoff home run to left on a 2-0 pitch for her first career homer. The Dutchmen broke the game open in the fifth with five runs. McCurdy knocked in the first two with a triple to right field. She then scored on a Kylie Balthaser groundout. Danni Holmes and Burns hit back-to-back RBI singles with two outs to score the sixth and seventh runs of the game. In the sixth, McCurdy hit a one-out single up the middle, stole second, and then scored the game-ending run on a Balthaser single to left.
 
Inside the Box Score
  • Alicia Gotts pitched her first shutout of the year with three strikeouts and three hits allowed. She added two hits including a double at the plate.
  • McCurdy finished with three hits, two RBI, and two runs scored.
  • Burns had two hits to give her 99 in her career.
  • Kratz had two hits, a run scored, and an RBI.
  • Holmes and Craig had two hits each.
  • Balthaser knocked in two runs.
  • The Dutchmen had a season-high 16 hits and five stolen bases.

Lebanon Valley will be back at the Softball Park on Tuesday when they will face Elizabethtown College for two games starting at 4 p.m.
