Burns Records 100th Career Hit in Sweep of Elizabethtown

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Sam Burns recorded her 100th career hit for the Lebanon Valley softball team in game one of a doubleheader sweep of Elizabethtown College on Tuesday afternoon at the LVC Softball Park. The Dutchmen won the opener 4-3 and then took the second game 4-1 for their eighth straight win.
 
Game One
LVC (19-4) did all their scoring in the first two innings with a run in the first and three in the second. Julia Craig hit a two-out double and then scored on a Lindsey McCurdy single to center. In the second inning, Nicole Kratz and Maddy Gronback hit back-to-back singles to lead off the inning. Burns then knocked in Kratz with her milestone hit on a single to center that nearly hit Gronback at second. Lexi Smith knocked in Gronback and Burns with a two-out single that hit the first base bag and went into right field. Elizabethtown (7-18) scored a run in the third and two more in the fourth. The Blue Jays had three singles and a walk with two outs in the fourth before Erin Sinatra entered the game in relief and shut down the bats the rest of the way.

Game Two
The Dutchmen (20-4) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning as Burns and Craig hit singles and then scored on a McCurdy double down the leftfield line. The Dutchmen increased the lead to 3-0 in the third when Kiersten White laid down a perfectly placed sacrifice bunt to score McCurdy from third. The Blue Jays (7-19) got on the board in the fourth on two of their only three hits in the game against Jordan Walter. LVC responded in the bottom half when Anna Marie Hockman led the inning off with a double. Erin Pattillo pinch ran for her and scored when the throw down to third on her steal went into left field.

  • Walter was dominant in the circle allowing just one run on three hits and one walk with four strikeouts in the complete game win.
  • LVC stole eight bases led by Burns with three.
  • Burns also had three hits and scored a run.

The Dutchmen will be off until Saturday when they welcome University of Scranton to Annville for a pair of games. LVC will honoring Wounded Warriors at the games that begin at 1 p.m.
