Venezia Scores Milestone Goal as Zimmerman Powers Women’s Lacrosse to Win Over Alvernia

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Veronica Venezia scored her 200th career goal and Sydney Zimmerman had seven points to lead the Lebanon Valley women's lacrosse team to a big 12-5 victory over visiting Alvernia University on Wednesday at Arnold Field.
 
Zimmerman got the Dutchmen (4-7, 1-2 MAC Commonwealth) on the board with the first two goals on the game. Erin Zieber assisted on the second goal with just over eight minutes to play in the first quarter. The Golden Wolves (6-5, 0-3 MAC Commonwealth) cut the lead in half with a goal before Venezia scored her first goal of the game with 12 seconds left to give LVC a 3-1 lead. Alvernia scored the first two goals of the second quarter to tie the game. Zimmerman completed her hat trick with an unassisted goal and then found Molly Whisler in front of the goal 35 seconds later to give the Dutchmen a two-goal advantage. Emily Beard gave LVC a 6-3 halftime lead with a goal off a feed from Venezia.

The Dutchmen came out of the halftime break strong scoring the first four goals of the quarter to increase their lead to 10-3. Venezia started the scoring with an unassisted goal before Zimmerman tallied her fourth goal of the game. Erin Zieber added to the lead and then Kyla Hebert scored her first career goal off an assist from Zimmerman. The Golden Wolves stopped the run with a goal at 1:55 to cut it to 10-4 going into the fourth. Venezia scored her milestone goal off Zimmerman's third assist of the game with just under 10 minutes to go in the game. Zieber gave the Dutchmen a12-4 lead with her second goal of the game off an assist by Venezia. The Golden Wolves scored a woman-up goal with 32 seconds left to round out the scoring.

  • Zimmerman had four goals and three assists for the second time this season. She took seven shots and picked up three ground balls. The senior has scored four hat tricks this year.
  • Venezia became the third Dutchman to score 200 career goals. She recorded her fourth hat trick of the year on six shots and added two assists for five points.
  • Zieber had two goals and an assist for three points. The senior led the team with four draw controls and four ground balls.
  • Beard won four draw controls, caused three turnovers, and scored her 15th goal of the season.
  • Julia Abendschoen had a fantastic game in goal with 16 saves, two caused turnovers, and two ground balls. She held the Wolves to just one goal on nine free position shots.
  • Riley Finnegan had a strong defensive game with four ground balls.

Lebanon Valley will be back in action on Friday at 6 p.m. when they host St. Mary's College of Maryland at Arnold Field on Senior Night.
