ANNVILLE, Pa. – Erin Sinatra's dominant pitching in game one and
Sam Burns' offensive showcase in game two led the Lebanon Valley College softball team to a sweep of the University of Scranton in a doubleheader on Monday at LVC Softball Park. The Flying Dutchmen won the first game 3-1 and picked up a 7-4 victory in the second matchup.
Jordan Walter recorded her 200th career strikeout in game two.
Game One
Lebanon Valley (22-5) posted a game one victory against Scranton (12-13) behind early production at the plate and stellar pitching.
Erin Sinatra delivered a complete game effort in the pitching circle, holding the opposition to just one run while striking out five batters in the process. The performance provided Sinatra with her eighth victory of the campaign.
The Dutchmen opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning, jumping out to an early 3-0 lead. Center fielder
Lindsey McCurdy got things started by lining a single up the middle, driving in
Sam Burns. Later in the frame, right fielder
Kylie Balthaser lined a single that was deflected by the glove of the shortstop and thrown away, leading to
Nicole Kratz and McCurdy scoring. Balthaser was credited with a run batted in and the other run crossed the plate on the throwing error.
The clubs would then trade zeros until the top of the sixth inning, when the Royals received a single to center field to make it a 3-1 LVC lead. This would ultimately hold as the final score, as Sinatra closed out the game with a scoreless seventh.

Game Two
The Dutchmen (23-5) had an impressive second game in the batter's box, scoring seven runs on 13 hits. Burns and second baseman
Lexi Smith helped lead this offensive production, as they each drove in two runs in the ballgame. Pitcher
Jordan Walter was also a key contributor, providing the club with 6.1 innings out of the bullpen. This was a historic outing for Walter, as she recorded her 200th career strikeout.
The Royals (12-14) got rolling at the plate in the top of the first, jumping out to an early 3-0 lead over the Flying Dutchmen. Scranton's early offense was scored on a wild pitch and a two-run triple down the right field line. But Lebanon Valley answered right back in the bottom half of the frame, tying the game at 3. First baseman
Julia Craig lined a single that got through the right side of the infield, plating Burns. Later in the inning, Smith sent an opposite-field single through the left side to drive in McCurdy and Craig.
LVC went ahead in the bottom of the second, taking a 4-3 lead against Scranton. The Dutchmen claimed the lead on an infield single to shortstop by Burns, bringing home
Anna Marie Hockman. The Royals rallied in the top of the fourth inning, evening the score at 4-4 on a single to left-center field. Lebanon Valley then took the game back in the bottom half of the frame, as Burns gave the club a 5-4 lead by scoring on a wild pitch.
The Flying Dutchmen added some insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth, extending their advantage to 7-4 against the Royals. Burns continued her big game at the plate by grounding a single up the middle, driving in Smith.
Megan Heard followed this by lining a single to center, scoring Burns. This ultimately stood as the final score, as Walter threw two scoreless innings to close out the game.
