Men’s Tennis Clinches Tournament Berth Against Messiah

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley men's tennis team became the first to clinch a berth into the conference tournament on Friday with a 7-2 victory over Messiah University at the Shankroff Tennis Center.
 
The Dutchmen (13-3, 5-0 MAC Commonwealth) won two of the three doubles matches and five of the six singles matches to defeat Messiah (5-7, 2-2 MAC Commonwealth) for the second consecutive season after the Falcons won 13 of the 14 previous matches. Messiah earned points at number one doubles and number two singles needing tiebreakers to pick up wins in both.

  • Jesse Beck and Brendan Byler improved to 6-1 at number two doubles with an 8-3 win.
  • Jeffrey Bauer and Brady McLucas gave the Dutchmen the lead after doubles with an 8-5 victory at number three.
  • In a battle of last year's Player of the Year and the Rookie of the Year, Justin Schuetz was victorious with a big 6-2, 6-1 win for his seventh straight victory. He is 5-0 in conference play.
  • Beck won his 12th dual of the year with a 6-2, 6-3 win at number five singles.
  • Byler was a 6-1, 6-4 winner at number six singles for his team-leading 13th dual win of the year.
  • Bauer earned a 6-2, 6-5 win at number three singles for his 10th dual win of the year.
  • McLucas won 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) at number four singles.
  • LVC has won their last 14 home matches dating back to last spring.
