Dutchmen Softball Earns Big Sweep at York

YORK, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley softball team stayed undefeated in conference play with an important sweep of host York College of Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon. The Dutchmen won the opener 2-1 in 10 innings before breaking out the offense for a 12-2 game two victory in five innings.

Game One
The Dutchmen (15-4, 5-0 MAC Commonwealth) won a great pitcher's duel with all three runs coming in extra innings. Jordan Walter pitched great allowing just one run on six hits in 10 innings of work. LVC scored the first run of the game in the eighth as Julia Criag knocked in Danni Holmes on a two-out single through the left side. York tied the game up in the bottom of the inning on a leadoff home run to left. After a scoreless ninth, LVC put runners on the first and second after a Holmes walk. Lexi Smith hit an infield single to shortstop with two outs before Craig drew a walk to score the go-ahead run. The Spartans put runners on the corners to begin the bottom half, but Walter worked her way out of the jam with no runs scoring as she kept the ball in the infield.

Lindsey McCurdy knocked in the first run with a bases-loaded single through the left side. Kyle Balthaser knocked in Smith and Craig with a double down the line in left and then Hockman hit a single to center to score McCurdy with the fourth and final run of the inning. York (8-10, 3-3 MAC Commonwealth) scored their only two runs of the game in the bottom of the inning as Alyssa Harhigh hit a two-run home run for her second homer of the afternoon.

The Dutchmen scored a run in the fourth as Jessica Truitt scored on a throwing error on a Smith infield single to third. LVC then scored nine runs in the fifth to win by the run rule. Balthaser knocked in the first run of the inning with a double to right center. Two batters later she scored on a Maddy Gronback double down the line in left. Truitt then hit a single up the middle to score Hockman. After a pitching change, Megan Heard singled through the right side to score Gronback. Sam Burns loaded the bases with a single to center.
