Sinatra Throws No-Hitter as Softball Splits on Opening Day

JAN PHYL VILLAGE, Fla. – Erin Sinatra struck out six in a five-inning no-hitter to lead the Lebanon Valley softball team to an opening day split at the Auburndale Softball Complex on Sunday afternoon. The Dutchmen defeated Mount Mary University 8-0 in the first game of the day before dropping a hard-fought 5-0 decision to second-ranked Trine University.
 
Game One vs. Mount Mary
The Dutchmen got on the board in the second inning as Anna Marie Hockman singled up the middle to score Kylie Balthaser. LVC added three runs in the third as Megan Heard scored on a wild pitch and then Jessica Truitt blasted a two-run homer to left. Julia Forsythe and Lindsey McCurdy knocked in runs in the fourth inning to increase the lead to 6-0. The Dutchmen made it 8-0 in the fifth as Kiersten White scored on a wild pitch and then Nicole Kratz scored on a ground out by Brooke Edwards.
 
Inside the Box Score
  • Sinatra struck out six while facing 23 batters in five innings of work. She made four assists and one putout in the field.
  • Truitt blasted the first home run of her career.
  • Lexi Smith had two hits and scored a run.
  • McCurdy also had two hits and knocked in a run.
  • Hockman had two hits, a run scored, and an RBI.
  • Forsythe had two hits and an RBI.
  • The Dutchmen had 14 hits in the game including three doubles.
Game Two vs. No. 2 Trine
LVC fought valiantly against the defending national runners-ups. Trine got on the board in the third inning scoring on a throwing error. They added three more runs in the fifth on one hit and four LVC miscues. They scored their final run of the game in the sixth inning.
 
Inside the Box Score
  • Jordan Walter did a great job keeping the Trine hitters off balance and allowed just one earned run on seven hits with four strikeouts in six innings of work.
  • Mackenzie Willey had a hit and stole a base.
  • Balthaser went 1-2 with two putouts in the field.
  • Alicia Gotts struck out one and walked one in the seventh inning.

The Dutchmen will be right back at the Auburndale Softball Complex tomorrow morning taking on Emmanuel College at 9 a.m. and Nebraska Wesleyan University at 11:30 a.m.
