Seven Dutchmen Score In Conference Opener

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Seven different Lebanon Valley women's lacrosse student-athletes scored a goal on Wednesday evening in the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth opener against Widener University at Arnold Field. The visiting Pride outscored the Dutchmen 8-3 in the second half to win the game 14-8.
 
Widener (6-4, 1-0 MAC Commonwealth) scored the first two goals of the game on free position shots. The Dutchmen (3-6, 0-1 MAC Commonwealth) cut the lead in half as Bethany Cohee found Sydney Zimmerman in front of goal. The Pride scored the next three goals to take a 5-1 lead with 7:12 to go in the quarter. LVC finished the quarter strong as Erin Zieber, Emily Beard, and Molly Whisler scored goals to make it a one-goal game going into the second quarter. Zieber scored unassisted before Whisler found Beard open off a free position attempt with just over four minutes to play. Whisler then scored off a feed from Zimmerman with 15 seconds left. The teams locked down on defense in the second quarter. Widener scoring a goal with 8:24 left and then the Dutchmen countered with just over 90 seconds to go as Veronica Venezia scored on a free position shot to make it 6-5 at halftime.
 
The Dutchmen tied the game up to begin the third quarter with Maria Brandt scoring a little over a minute into the half. The Pride scored the next six goals to take a 12-6 lead with 6:57 to go in the fourth. Cohee ended the Widener run with a woman-up goal on a free position shot. The Pride traded goals with the Dutchmen for the rest of the game as Beard scored her second goal of the game.

Up Next
LVC will travel down to Maryland on Saturday to take on Stevenson University. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Mustang Stadium.
