Kratz Single Gives Softball Extra Inning Win Over Susquehanna

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Nicole Kratz hit a two-out single down the rightfield line in the bottom of the ninth inning to score Kylie Balthaser and give the Lebanon Valley softball team a thrilling 4-3 victory over visiting Susquehanna University in game one on Tuesday afternoon at the LVC Softball Park. The River Hawks scored a run in the top of the seventh to win the second game 3-2.

Game One
Susquehanna (9-9) scored an unearned run in the top of the first to take the early lead. LVC (12-3) got the bats going in the fourth with three straight hits to start the inning and scored two runs. Lindsey McCurdy hit a ball right back at the pitcher for an infield single. Mackenzie Willey hit a single down the line in left and ended up on second base while McCurdy advanced to third. Erin Pattillo knocked in a run with a perfectly placed bunt to third for a single. Megan Heard knocked in the go-ahead run two batters later with a sacrifice bunt back to the pitcher.

The River Hawks retook the lead in the top of the fifth on a two-RBI single to center. The Dutchmen were down to their last out in the seventh when Sam Burns tripled to right field and then Lexi Smith beat out a ball to shortstop for the tying-run. Neither team was able to score in the eighth. In the bottom of the ninth Katz pinch-hit for Megan Heard with two outs and Balthaser on third. She hit a single down the line setting off a celebration with her first career walk-off.
