BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lindsey McCurdy had three RBI and three hits to power the Lebanon Valley softball team to a 6-5 game one victory at Moravian University on Tuesday afternoon. The host Greyhounds used a great pitching performance to win game two 2-1.
Game One
McCurdy gave the Dutchmen (9-3) the lead in the top of the first inning with an RBI single to center to score
Lexi Smith from second. LVC extended the lead to 2-0 in the second when
Sam Burns had a two-out single through the right side to plate
Megan Heard. Moravian (10-4) cut the lead in half in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double. The Dutchmen put
Lexi Smith and
Alden Partyka on the corners in the third and executed a double steal to make it 3-1.
LVC added two runs in the fourth as McCurdy knocked home
Danni Holmes and Burns on a single to center. The Greyhounds scored three runs on two hits in the sixth to cut the lead to 5-4. LVC responded in the top of the seventh with a huge two-out RBI double off the fence in right center by
Kylie Balthaser to score
Megan Heard from first. Moravian scored a run in the bottom of the inning and had a runner on second with two outs before
Jordan Walter got a strikeout to end the game.
Inside the Box Score
- McCurdy knocked in three runs on three hits including a double.
- Smith and Heard each had two hits and scored two runs.
- Burns also had two hits, an RBI, and a run scored.
- Smith, Partyka, Mackenzie Willey, and Heard each had a stolen base.
- Jordan Walter pitched another complete game with five strikeouts and one earned run.
Game Two
Moravian won the pitcher's duel with a run in the third and a run in the fourth. After the Greyhounds scored in the bottom of the third inning,
Erin Pattillo led off the fourth with a single to center. She advanced around the bases to third and scored on a McCurdy groundout to second. Moravian then took the lead back with a manufactured run in the bottom of the inning. LVC threaten to score in the sixth with runners on second and third with one out, but the Greyhounds were able to get out of the inning unscathed.
Inside the Box Score
- Pattillo had two hits in the game and scored a run.
- Maddy Gronback had a hit while McCurdy had the lone RBI for the Dutchmen.
- Erin Sinatra pitched an excellent game with six strikeouts in six innings. She allowed five hits and two walks.
Up Next
LVC will begin conference play on Saturday with the home opener at the LVC Softball Park. The doubleheader against Alvernia University is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
