Fetterman Home Run Completes Comeback in Home-Opening Tie

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Jace Fetterman crushed his first home run of the year in the sixth inning to cap the scoring as the Lebanon Valley baseball team rallied from a five-run deficit to earn a 7-7 tie with Muhlenberg College in the home opener on Thursday afternoon at McGill Field. The game was called after the eighth inning due to darkness.

The Dutchmen loaded the bases in the first inning with singles by Ryan Murphy and Nico Santoro before Fetterman drew his first walk of the game. Murphy scored on a Shane Stossel grounder up the middle to give LVC the early lead. The score stayed the same until the third when Muhlenberg scored on a walk, sacrifice bunt, and two wild pitches. The Mules took the lead in the fourth with three runs on two hits. The lead increased to 6-1 in the fifth on a two-run home run.

LVC responded with a big five-run inning in the bottom half of the inning to tie things back up at six. Murphy led the inning off with a double. Santoro and Fetterman walked to load the bases. Stossel and Conor Smith drew back-to-back walks to knock in a pair of runs before Fetterman scored on a wild pitch. Duncan Weir tied the game with a two-RBI single to right field. The Mules responded with a run in the sixth to retake the lead. Fetterman made the lead short-lived as he blasted a shot over the 365 sign in right center for a home run in the bottom of the inning. LVC had a chance to win in the eighth as they loaded the bases with no outs. Muhlenberg forced two short fly balls to right and a strikeout to get out of the inning unscathed.
