Santoro and Fetterman Hit Home Runs on Final Day of Florida Trip

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – Nico Santoro extended his hit streak to 12 games and blasted a two-run home run for the Lebanon Valley baseball team on the final day of the spring break trip in Port Charlotte. LVC was defeated by Heidelberg University 9-8 in 10 innings on Saturday morning before falling 14-3 to sixth-ranked Baldwin Wallace in the afternoon.
 
Game 1 vs. Heidelberg
Facing Heidelberg for the third time in the week including a developmental game on Thursday, the Student Princes scored twice in the first inning. Dave Mangold knocked in Conor Smith with a single to center in the second to cut the lead in half. Heidelberg responded with three runs in the third to take a 5-1 lead. The Dutchmen slowly chipped into the lead as Jace Fetterman knocked in Santoro with a single to right in the fifth and then Santoro hit a single to score Smith in the sixth.
 
After Heidelberg scored a run in the bottom of the sixth, Fetterman led off the seventh with a home run to right. The scoring didn't stop there as Smith hit an infield single to short to score Andrew Miles and then Smith scored on a Justin Ranker RBI to tie the game up. Neither teams was able to score in the eighth and ninth as the game headed into extra innings. Santoro gave the Dutchmen their first lead of the game with his second career home run in the top of the 10th with Owen Berry on the base paths after pinch running for Shane Stossel. Stossel led off the inning with a double down the line in left. Heidelberg responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning to win the game.
 
Inside the Box Score
  • Santoro had a huge game with four hits in six at-bats. He scored two runs and knocked in three. Santoro was a triple shy of the cycle.
  • Fetterman hit his third home run of the year and had three hits total in the game. He knocked in two runs and scored one.
  • Smith also had three hits with three runs scored and an RBI.
  • The Dutchmen had 13 hits in the game including five extra base hits.
  • Tommy Moore Jr. pitched six innings in relief and struck out six while holding Heidelberg to one run on four hits as LVC made their comeback.
Game 2 vs. No. 6 Baldwin Wallace
The sixth-ranked Yellow Jackets (10-2) jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first three innings on the Dutchmen (3-8-1) in their only game of the day. Baldwin Wallace scored two runs in the first inning, three in the second, and then five in the third. LVC got on the board in the fourth as Luke Pollock singled through the left side to score Logan Fuga. Neither team scored again until the seventh when Baldwin Wallace put up one in the top of the inning and then LVC scored twice in the bottom half. Berry scored the first run of the inning for the Dutchmen on a wild pitch for ball four to Andrew Miles. Ethan O'Loughlin knocked in Miles three batters later with a single to right. The Yellow Jackets scored three in the eighth to set the final score.

  • Pollock led the Dutchmen with two hits and an RBI.
  • Santoro had a hit in his only at-bat to extend his hitting streak to 12 games to begin the season.
  • The Dutchmen put runners on base with nine hits and five walks in the game.
  • Eric Sees and Fuga hit doubles.
  • Kyle McCracken didn't allow a hit over three innings of relief and struck out two. 
Up Next
LVC will head back north to Annville and will be back in action on Wednesday afternoon against Nichols College at 3:30 p.m. on McGill Field.
