ANNVILLE, Pa. – Emily Beard and
Sydney Zimmerman record seven points apiece to lead the Lebanon Valley women's lacrosse team to a big 18-12 victory over Marywood University in the home opener at Arnold Field on Wednesday.
Alyssa Wene got the Dutchmen (1-1) on the board with an unassisted goal almost two minutes into the game. Marywood (2-1) tied the game up two minutes later before Zimmerman and Beard scored back-to-back goals to give LVC a 3-1 lead after one quarter of play. The scoring run continued into the second quarter as Beard hit a streaking Zimmerman for her second goal of the game 34 seconds into the quarter.
Bethany Cohee added her first career goal on a free position shot before Beard scored on a free position to give the Dutchmen a 6-1 lead. The Pacers cut the lead down to one with four consecutive goals before
Molly Whisler and
Erin Zieber found the back of the net in the final minute to give the Dutchmen a 8-5 halftime lead.
Wene started the second half with her second goal on the game in the opening minute. The Pacers scored a pair of goals before LVC rattled off a string of four goals in four minutes. Zieber started the rally off a pass from Zimmerman from behind the net. Beard scored twice and then Wene converted on a free position to give the Dutchmen a 13-7 lead. Marywood responded with three straight goals before Beard ended the period with an unassisted goal to make it 14-10. The Pacers scored the first goal of the fourth quarter with just under 13 minutes to play before Zimmerman and Beard tallied unassisted goals to increase the lead to five. Marywood would score on a free position shot with just under 10 to play. The Dutchmen locked down on defense and didn't allow another goal the rest of the way while Zimmerman and Wene scored in the final minute to set the final score.

- Beard scored a career-high six goals and had an assist on seven shots. She was 2-2 on free position shots. The junior also won six draw controls.
- Wene scored a career-high four goals and had an assist for five points.

- Whisler had a goal and an assist on three shots.
- Kyla Hebert recorded her first career point on an assist.
- Julia Abendschoen made 15 saves and held the Pacers to just 3-12 on free position shots.
- The 18 goals are the second-most for the Dutchmen in a home opener. It also marks the third consecutive year LVC has won their first home game scoring at least 18 goals.
- LVC improves to 3-0 all-time against Marywood.
