PINE VALLEY, N.Y. – Junior
Harris Blackwood scored a goal and dished out an assist for the Lebanon Valley College men's ice hockey team on Wednesday, Nov. 15, as the program dropped a 7-3 game to Elmira College at the Murray Athletic Center (Ice Arena).
Three players netted goals for Lebanon Valley (2-5-0, 1-1-0 UCHC), as the program battled against Elmira (5-2-0, 2-2-0 NEHC) in a road matchup. The Soaring Eagles went ahead with two goals in the first period and added to their advantage with three points in the second. The Dutchmen then got their offense going with a goal in the frame. Lebanon Valley continued to deliver a strong effort in the final period, finding the net two more times. The Eagles also scored twice in the third, preserving their lead.
Elmira opened the scoring 10:18 into the first period, taking a 1-0 lead on a power play goal by Jared Smith. The Soaring Eagles found the net again 2:54 later, extending their advantage to 2-0 on a goal by Shawn Kennedy. The Dutchmen attempted to create offensive opportunities throughout the frame, taking eight shots on goal during the first 20 minutes. Senior
Blake Tosto led the program with a pair of shots during the first. Senior goaltender
Gabriel Pigeon also worked to limit the opposition early on the defensive end, making 12 saves in the opening period.
Elmira added another tally 1:54 into the second period, making it a 3-0 contest on a goal by Daniel Dimon. The Eagles followed this by tacking on a point 12:27 into the frame, advancing the score to 4-0 on a goal by Matt York. The Dutchmen then answered just 17 seconds later, trimming their deficit to 4-1. Senior
Jered Stevenson got Lebanon Valley on the scoreboard by sending a shot past the goaltender, courtesy of an assist by junior
Jackson Legro. Elmira responded 13:32 into the period, taking a 5-1 lead on another goal by Kennedy. Stevenson continued to generate scoring chances for LVC as the period went on, as the senior took two shots on goal within the final 20 seconds of the second frame.
The Dutchmen kept battling when the third period began, netting a goal to narrow their deficit to 5-2 just 3:14 into the frame. Blackwood helped LVC trim the Eagles' lead by delivering his second goal of the year. Elmira followed this with goals by Ryan Reifler 4:53 into the period and Bailey Krawczyk with 6:17 remaining, making it a 7-2 game. Lebanon Valley continued to compete until the final minute, trimming its deficit to 7-3 with 57 seconds left in the game. Sophomore
Cameron Croteau sent a shot past the goaltender, following an assist by Blackwood. This would stand as the final score.
