ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley women's basketball team outscored visiting Penn State Hazleton 64-13 over the final three quarters to defeat the Nittany Lions 82-24 on the first night of the annual Rinso Marquette Invitational on Saturday at Sorrentinto Gymnasium.
The Dutchmen (1-1) had 12 different scorers and held Hazleton scoreless for the final quarter. The Lions (0-4) scored the first four points of the game.
Brielle Reidinger putback her own miss and then
Kate Fitzpatrick knocked down a three off an assist by
Cristina Fernandez. The Lions knocked down a three before Fernandez gave LVC the lead for good with a jumper and three-pointer off assists by
Abbie Reed. The Dutchmen were able to increase their lead to 18-9 before Hazleton beat the buzzer with a jumper to end the quarter.
LVC scored the first 14 points of the second quarter to go up by 21 points. Reed finished up the run with a fastbreak layup following a steal at the other end by
Samya Santiague.
Riley Hevelow and Fitzpatrick combined for 10 points during the run. The Lions knocked down a pair of free throws but then Santiague hit a three-pointer and then scored on a fastbreak layup while getting fouled. She knocked down the free throw to make it 38-13 with 90 seconds left in the half. Hazleton hit their only field goal of the quarter to cut it to 40-15 at halftime.
The run continued into the second half as Fitzpatrick hit a pair of three-pointers and Fernandez also knocked down a trey. Hazleton used a 5-0 run midway through the quarter to cut the lead to 53-22 but LVC responded with layups by Reed and
Jordan Zimmerman.
Allison Bimmer knocked down a three to make it 60-22. The Lions made a pair of free throw with 34 second left in the quarter and then Zimmerman hit a jumper in the paint to give LVC a 63-24 lead.
The Dutchmen defense limited Hazleton to just six shots in the fourth quarter as the outscored the Lions 19-0 over the final 10 minutes.
Allyson Babinsky and
Ashley Pleban knocked down threes while the Dutchmen shot 43.75 percent in the quarter.
Inside the Box
- Fitzpatrick led the way with 17 points on 7-14 shooting including 3-9 from beyond the arc. She also had four rebounds.
- Fernandez had 11 points and six assists with three rebounds.
- Hevelow was the third scorer in double figures with 10 and three assists.
- LVC hit nine three-pointers and were 9-11 at the line.
- Reidinger and Reed each had seven rebounds with four offensive rebounds apiece.
- The Dutchmen shot 45.7 percent from the field and had 24 second chance points.
- The defense forced 30 turnovers and scored 46 points off those turnovers.

LVC will play Saint Vincent College tomorrow at 1 p.m. inside Sorrentino Gymnasium. The Bearcats were 84-40 winners over Penn State Schuylkill in the earlier game of the day.
