Dutchmen Volleyball Records Season-High 11 Blocks Against Stockton at Stevenson Tri-Match

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Lebanon Valley volleyball team had a season-high 11 total blocks against Stockton University in the second match of the team's tri-match at Stevenson on Saturday in Owings Mills, Maryland. Host Stevenson University won the first match of the day 3-0 before Stockton defeated the Dutchmen 3-1 in the second match between the programs this year.
 
Match 1 – at Stevenson (25-20, 25-10, 25-22)
The Mustangs had a hitting percentage of .357 to win all three sets against the Dutchmen. LVC rallied from a 13-3 deficit in the first set to get within four points at 20-16 but Stevenson was able to win the set 25-20. The second set belonged to the Mustangs as they scored eight of the first 10 points. The lead got to 22-4 before the Dutchmen were able to score six of the final nine points in the set. The teams battled back and forth in the third set with LVC taking a 5-3 lead. The teams traded points until Stevenson was able to go on a rally to take a 10-9 advantage. They built the lead up to 22-15. LVC fought back valiantly scoring seven of the next nine points to cut the lead down to 24-22.

Match 2 – vs. Stockton (29-27, 26-24, 15-25, 25-18)
LVC and Stockton played each other close the first two sets as both needed more than 25 points to decide the winner. The teams battled back-and-forth throughout the opening set with neither team able to win more than three points in a row. The Dutchmen held a 13-9 advantage after a service ace by Lindau. Stockton responded with the next three points and tied the match up at later in the set. The match was tied at 20 before the teams traded consecutive points. Stockton won two points, the Dutchmen tied it back up, the Osprey scored twice for set point, LVC scored twice to even the match at 24. The match was tied at 27 before Stockton managed to win the final two points of the set.
 
Set two was just as close LVC held an 11-9 advantage, but Stockton scored the next three points to take the lead. LVC responded with a rally to retake the lead at 17-13. The Dutchmen were up 23-17 and had set point at 24-19 before the Osprey closed strong with seven straight points. The Dutchmen came out strong in the third set winning eight of the first 10 points. They were able to increase the advantage to 14-8 and then used a six-point streak to take a 23-13 lead. Mattea Penner gave the Dutchmen set point and then an attack error ended the set. Stockton built a 7-1 lead to begin set four. The Dutchmen gradually cut into the deficit and got the score to 12-10 after a kill by McInerney. Stockton managed to increase the lead to 18-11 before LVC used kills by McInerney, Penner, and Reynolds to cut the advantage to 19-15. That was as close as the Dutchmen would get as the Osprey won the set 25-18.

 Up Next
First place is on the line in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom on Tuesday as the Dutchmen will play defending champion Stevens Institute of Technology at 7 p.m. inside Sorrentino Gymnasium. The Dutchmen and Ducks are the only two 3-0 teams in conference play. The game will also serve as the team's Dig Pink Game.
