Dutchmen Claim Regular Season Title with Draw at Stevens

HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Lebanon Valley men's soccer team claimed the top seed in next week's Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Championship with a 0-0 tie at Stevens Institute of Technology in a battle between the co-Regular Season Champions.
 
The Dutchmen (12-1-4, 5-0-2 MAC Freedom) entered the game needing a win or draw to clinch the top seed in the conference tournament. Stevens (9-2-5, 5-0-2 MAC Freedom) came out as the aggressors on their home turf needing to win to claim the top seed. The Ducks had six shots in the opening 30 minutes of play compared to one for the Dutchmen. SIT put three of their shots on goal where Dalton Fitterling was able to keep the ball out of the back of the net. The Ducks had a pair of corner kicks in the 39th and 40th minutes but LVC denied any opportunity of a shot.
 
LVC came out strong to begin the second half and Abass Ndiaye had a good look at goal in the 47th minute but his attempt sailed over the net. The Ducks had a pair of shots go wide before Aidan Smith put a shot on goal that the Ducks keeper knocked away and over the endline for a corner kick. The Dutchmen had a good opportunity to score in the 75th minute as Aidan Negron had his shot attempted blocked and then a save was needed on a Lucas Strange rebound attempt towards goal. The Ducks put pressure on the Dutchmen defense in the final 15 minutes of action and Fitterling was called on to make a save in the 88th minute. Stevens had a pair of corner kicks in the final minute of play but both times the LVC defense denied any attempt at goal.

  • Fitterling made five saves for his fifth clean sheet of the year.
  • Negron and Strange led the Dutchmen with two shots each.
  • Nathan Prex, Kevin Donahue, Matthew Weinstock-Collings, Smith, and Ndiaye had a shot apiece.
  • The Dutchmen and Ducks tied in the first-ever meeting between the programs.
  • LVC claimed the top seed in the conference tournament based on defeating third-seeded Misericordia while Stevens tied the Cougars.
Up Next
The Dutchmen will host fourth-seeded DeSales University in the MAC Freedom Semifinals on Wednesday at Herbert Field. A time has not been set yet for the match but will be announced within the next couple of days along with other information about the conference championship.
