Six Dutchmen Score in Senior Day Victory

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Six different Lebanon Valley field hockey student-athletes found the back of the cage as the Dutchmen enjoyed a 6-3 victory over visiting King's College on Senior Day at Arnold Field in the regular season finale.

The Dutchmen (12-6, 5-2 MAC Freedom) used a big four-goal first quarter to build an early lead against the Monarchs (3-16, 0-7 MAC Freedom). Alana Antonello scored just 39 seconds into the game knocking in a pass from Claire Weidenhammer. The Dutchmen kept the pressure on the King's defense and Weidenhammer found the back of the cage just four minutes later off an assist by Lexi Ward. Ward got the ball to Weidenhammer following a rebound off a saved shot by Sarah Leidich. Rebecca Lane gave LVC a 3-0 advantage at 10:34. Jenna Angstadt, who had just subbed into the game made her presence known right away by dishing out the assist on the goal. Gracie Johnson rounded out the first period scoring with an unassisted goal with just over two minutes remaining.

The scoring continued into the second quarter as Amy Tinsman scored her first career goal 1:52 into the period off a tipped pass from Ward. Ward redirected a feed from Sorrell Long from the top of the circle right to Tinsman who sent the ball into the empty cage. The Monarchs were able to get on the board in the 26th minute with a goal on a penalty corner. LVC came right back down the field and scored 31 seconds later to put the lead back up to five goals. Sorrell scored the goal for the Dutchmen while Johnson had the assist on the play. The Monarchs had two shot attempts in the closing minute of the half, but Lacy Bigelow was able to knock them away to keep it at 5-1.

Neither team was able to score in the third quarter as LVC's defensive pressure didn't allow a shot in the period. Antonello had her shot attempt saved in the 39th minute and Emily Kline had an attempt go wide in the 40th minute. The Dutchmen controlled possession to begin the fourth quarter and Bridget Rutkowski had her shot saved in the 48th minute. The Dutchmen had a pair of penalty corners back-to-back with Sophia Stranick's shot being blocked by a defender and then Leidich had her attempt at goal knocked away. The Monarchs were able to score two late goals, in the 58th and 59th minutes to cut the lead to 6-3. The Dutchmen had a great look at the cage in the final minute but Madeline Reider's shot behind the keeper was knocked away by a Monarch defender for a defensive save.
