ANNVILLE, Pa. – Robyn Stepler dished out 47 assists over two matches as the Lebanon Valley volleyball team played host to Elizabethtown College and Rowan University on Saturday inside Sorrentino Gymnasium in Annville. Elizabethtown defeated the Dutchmen 3-2 in the first match of the day and then Rowan won 3-1 in the final match.
Match 1 vs. Elizabethtown (18-25, 25-20, 25-15, 12-25, 6-15)
The Dutchmen won the first set before dropping the next two against the Blue Jays. The team came back strong in the fourth set and did not record an error in 24 attacks during the set while having 12 kills to force a fifth set. Elizabethtown raced out to an 8-3 lead in the fifth set and took the match with a 15-6 set win. The Blue Jays used strong defense with 88 digs on 180 LVC attacks.
Inside the Box
- Stepler led the squad with 27 assists in the match. The junior added three kills, 15 digs, two solo blocks and a service ace.
- Thomas had a great defensive game with 26 digs and three aces.
- Taylor McInerney had a game-high 20 kills.
- Teaguen Reynolds added seven kills and four digs.
- Sonia Okronley recorded 17 assists to complement Stepler with dishing out the ball.
Match 2 vs. Rowan (25-15, 25-10, 22-25, 25-10)
Rowan used a strong offensive attack to take a 2-0 lead in the match. The Dutchmen rallied for a third set victory, but the Profs took the fourth set to win the match. The match featured numerous exciting long rallies and strong play around the net from both teams.
Inside the Box
- Kelli Heffer led the offense with 10 kills.
- Stepler had another strong game with 15 assists, seven digs, and two service aces.
- Okronley also had seven digs and dished out 10 assists.
- Libby Lindau recorded four kills, two service aces, and seven digs.
- Abigail Souder led the team in digs with 15.
- Margaret Cole had two blocks.
Up Next
The Dutchmen will attempt to lock up a postseason berth on Tuesday when they make the trip to Madison, N.J. to take on FDU-Florham in their final road Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom match of the year. The match is scheduled to get underway at 7 p.m. inside the Ferguson Recreation Center.
