Clawson and Vallie Lead Dutchmen in Season-Opening Win

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Jack Clawson and Dain Vallie qualified for the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships on Saturday to help the Lebanon Valley men's swimming team defeat host Lycoming College 119-45 in the first meet of the year.
 
The Dutchmen defeated the Warriors for the first time-ever in a series that dates to 1990. Lycoming had won the first 31 meetings between the programs including a 115-86 victory last year in Annville.
 
Inside the Box
  • LVC won six events including both relays.
  • The meet began with the team of Connor Hirons, Vallie, Isaac Dismisa, and Justin kopp winning the 200-yard medley relay in 1:59.54.
  • Jacob Herold then finished second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:17.44. Jacob Marsh was third in 2:31.73.
  • Clawson won the 50-yard freestyle in a MAC-qualifying time of 23.94 seconds as the Dutchmen swept the top three spots. Tyler Singer was second in 24.78 seconds and Jeremy Tuz was third in 27.40 seconds.
  • Kopp continued the winning in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:30.36. Zack Fisher was second in 2:45.41. Vallie actually had the fastest time in the event at 2:22.87 but the graduate student swam the race as an exhibition and did not factor into the scoring.
  • Vallie was second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:07.54 while Dismisa was third in 1:09.28.
  • Clawson earned more points in the 100-yard freestyle with a second place finish in 55.47 seconds. Singer was third with a time of 1:00.25.
  • The Dutchmen swept the top three times of the 100-yard backstroke with Joe Beidler winning in 1:11.07. Hirons was second with a time of 1:14.40 and Mitchell Delano was third in 1:16.35.
  • Vallie swam a time of 6:03.04 in the 500-yard freestyle and was the leadoff leg on the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team. His opening 50-yard freestyle time of 24.42 seconds qualifies him for the MAC Championships in the event.
  • Zack Fisher finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:16.79 while Beidler was third in 1:23.79. 
Up Next
The Dutchmen will swim time trials next Saturday at Cedar Crest College in Allentown while the women's team competes in a tri-match against two all-women's schools.
