Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Wilk Goal Gives Women’s Ice Hockey First-Ever Win Over Stevenson

HERSHEY, Pa. – Cheyenne Wilk put a rebound into the back of the net with 2:29 left in regulation to give the Lebanon Valley women's ice hockey team a thrilling 2-1 victory over Stevenson University on Friday evening at Hersheypark Arena.

Stevenson was the aggressor in the opening period putting 14 shots on goal compared to just three for the Dutchmen. The Mustangs scored the first goal of the game midway through the period to take the lead. Lebanon Valley came out of the intermission on a mission and the second period was nearly exactly the opposite of the first with LVC holding a 13-4 shot advantage in the period. Katrina Strauts tied the game up at 11:25 as she knocked in a rebound off the stick of Brenna Mulcahy.

The teams battled back and forth in the third period. LVC went on the power play nearly midway through the period but were unable to get any of the five shots on goal into the back of the net during the opportunity. The Dutchmen capitalized on a Mustang turnover late as Ioanna Christou intercepted a pass near mid ice and took the puck inside the blue line. Her shot attempt was saved off the pads but Wilk was right there to fire home the rebound giving LVC the lead. The Mustangs took off their goaltender for an extra attacker in the final minute and were up two women for the final 55 seconds following a penalty called on the Dutchmen. LVC held strong and eight shots were kept out of the back of the net preserving the win.
