Lindsey McCurdy hit a sacrifice fly to right field scoring
Tori Hunyara with the winning run in a 6-5 eight inning victory for the Lebanon Valley softball team to earn a sweep of Hood College on Saturday afternoon. The Dutchmen scored nine runs in the sixth inning of game one to defeat the Blazers 11-5 in the first game at the LVC Softball Park.
Game 1
LVC (14-6, 5-2 MAC Commonwealth) was led by
Morgan Comfort in the opener as the center fielder knocked in the first two runs of the game with a single to center in the first and a single to left in the fifth. Hood (12-12-1, 3-4 MAC Commonwealth) scored all their runs in the sixth as they put a five-spot up on the scoreboard. The Dutchmen responded in a big way during the bottom of the inning with nine runs to take an 11-5 lead.
Inside the Box Score
- Comfort had three hits, knocked in three runs, and scored a run. She doubled home the go-ahead run in the sixth.
- Kylie Balthaser also recorded three hits in the game. She knocked in a pair of runs on a double to center in the sixth and scored the first and last runs of the inning.
- Lexi Smith was the third Dutchman with three hits in the game. Anna Marie Hockman had a big two-RBI single to give the Dutchmen their final two runs of the game.
- All nine batters recorded a hit in the game as the Dutchmen racked up 16 hits, their second-most of the season.
- Jordan Walter earned her eighth win of the year with a complete game six-hitter. She struck out four and walked just two.
Game 2
Hood (12-13-1, 3-5 MAC Commonwealth) took a 1-0 lead in the first on a home run that bounced off the top of the fence in left. Lebanon Valley (15-6, 6-2 MAC Commonwealth) scored once in the second, twice in the third, and twice in the fifth to take a 5-1 lead. The Blazers tied the game up in the seventh with four unearned runs before McCurdy's heroics in the eighth.
Inside the Box Score
- Five different Dutchmen had two hits in the game. Sam Burns, Julia Craig, Jordan Hess, Hockman, and Danni Holmes all recorded multi-hit games.
- Hockman knocked in a pair of runs with a single to left in the second and then another single to left in the fifth.
- Craig doubled home a run in the third and then scored on a Hess double.
- Holmes led off the eighth with a double to right field and then advanced to third. Hunyara came into pinch run before Burns perfectly placed a bunt to the right side for a single. McCurdy then hit a fly ball to right that scored Hunyara with the winning run.
- Erin Sinatra struck out seven Blazers in 6.2 innings. Walter pitched the final four outs in relief to earn her second win of the day.
Who's Next
The Dutchmen will face King's College on Tuesday for a pair of games at the LVC Softball Park. Game one will begin at 3 p.m. with game two scheduled for a 5 p.m. start.
