Lindsey McCurdy Leads Softball To Important Split With York

ANNVILLE, Pa.Lindsey McCurdy hit for the cycle on the day with a double and a triple in game one and then a single and home run in game two as the Lebanon Valley College softball team earned a big split with visiting York College of Pennsylvania on Friday afternoon at the LVC Softball Park. The Spartans rallied to win the opener 7-6 before the Dutchmen took game two 11-3 in six innings.
 
Game 1
York (13-9, 5-2 MAC Commonwealth) scored a pair of unearned runs in the first to take the lead. The Dutchmen responded with a run in the second to cut the lead in half. The Spartans scored another unearned run in the third before LVC exploded for five runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 6-3 lead. York scored four unearned runs in the seventh inning to set the final.
 
Inside the Box Score
  • Morgan Comfort and Jordan Hess hit big home runs for the Dutchmen in the game. Comfort hit a shot to left field on a 1-2 pitch to lead off the second inning and then an inning later Hess crushed a 1-0 pitch over the center field fence to score three runs and give LVC a 6-3 lead. Comfort's homer was her first for the Dutchmen while Hess hit the first home run of her collegiate career.
  • McCurdy hit a run-scoring triple to the gap in right center in the third and then doubled to the same gap to lead off the sixth inning.
  • Four different Dutchmen had multi-hits games. McCurdy, Julia Craig, Kylie Bathaser, and Lexi Smith each had two hits.
  • LVC racked up a season-high seven extra-base hits in the game with four doubles, one triple, and a season-high two home runs.
  • Jordan Walter struck out three and walked one pitching a complete game and did not allow an earned run.
Game 2
The Spartans (13-10, 5-3 MAC Commonwealth) scored a run in each of the first three innings to take a 3-0 lead. LVC (16-7, 7-3 MAC Commonwealth) fought back with a run in the third and three in the fourth to take a 4-3 lead. The Dutchmen added two runs in the fifth and then five more in the sixth to end the game due to the eight-run rule.
 
Inside the Box Score
  • McCurdy started the comeback with a single through the right side scoring Danni Holmes with two outs in the third. She then crushed a 0-1 pitch to right center in the sixth with a runner on to give the Dutchmen an 8-3 lead.
  • Mandi Armstrong had the biggest hit of the game with a bases-clearing triple to right center with two outs in the fourth to give the Dutchmen a 4-3 lead.
  • Comfort knocked in a pair of runs with a double down the line in right in the fifth and then a single up the middle in the sixth.
  • Smith knocked in the final two runs of the game in the sixth with single up the middle scoring Hess and Comfort.
  • McCurdy, Comfort, Smith, and Holmes all had two hits in the game while Comfort and Holmes scored twice.
  • The Dutchmen offense equaled their season-high with 11 runs scored and 11 RBIs.
  • Erin Sinatra earned her seventh win of the year with a complete game in the circle. The sophomore struck out three and allowed three runs on eight hits and one walk. The Spartans were held to just three hits in the final three innings.
Who's Next
LVC will be back at the LVC Softball Park on Tuesday with a non-conference doubleheader against Shenandoah University before traveling to face Alvernia University on Wednesday in conference action. Both days are scheduled for 3 p.m. starts.
