READING, Pa. –
Jordan Hess hit a home run and
Kylie Balthaser knocked in three runs as the Lebanon Valley College softball squad earned a split against Alvernia during Wednesday's conference doubleheader at Angelica Park. The Dutchmen won the opener 6-1 before the host Golden Wolves won the nightcap.
Game 1
The Dutchmen (17-7, 8-3 MAC Commonwealth) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and then added an insurance run in the third. Alvernia (10-13, 3-6 MAC Commonwealth) got on the board with a run in the fourth. LVC got the run back in the top of the fifth and then Hess homered in the seventh.
Inside the Box Score
- Hess was 2-2 at the plate with two runs and two RBIs. She hit a sacrifice fly in the third and then crushed her second homer of the year to left center in the seventh.
- Balthaser knocked in two runs in the first with a single to left center and then hit a sac fly in the fifth for her three RBIs.
- Sam Burns, Morgan Comfort, and Anna Marie Hockman had a hit each in the game.
- Jordan Walter scatted six hits and allowed just one run to earn her 10th win of the year. The junior struck out five in the complete game win.
Game 2
Alvernia (11-13, 4-6 MAC Commonwealth) scored 10 runs in the first on just four hits and one error. The Golden Wolves added a run in the second to win 11-0. LVC (17-8, 8-4 MAC Commonwealth) had two hits in the run-ruled shortened game.
Inside the Box Score
- Comfort led off the second inning with a single down the leftfield line. She then stole second where she was stranded.
- Tori Hunyara had a pinch hit double to center in the fifth.
- Alicia Gotts didn't allow an earned run in 3.2 innings of relief in the circle.
Who's Next
LVC will be back in action on Thursday afternoon at the LVC Softball Park when they host Shenandoah University. Game times are scheduled for 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. against the Hornets.
