ANNVILLE, Pa. –
Alicia Gotts pitched six shutout innings in game one and
Jordan Walter threw eight shutout innings on the day earning a win and a save as the Lebanon Valley College softball team swept visiting Shenandoah University on Thursday afternoon at the LVC Softball Park with a pair of 1-0 wins.
Game 1
LVC (18-8) scored the only run of the game in the first inning. The Hornets (11-20) were able to get runners on base against Gotts but each inning the first-year pitcher came up big when needed to get an out.
Inside the Box Score
- Gotts struck out one batter and allowed four hits with seven walks. She stranded 11 Hornets on the base paths.
- Lindsey McCurdy had two doubles and scored the only run of the game in the first inning beating out a throw home on a slow grounder to the third baseman off the bat of Kylie Balthaser with the bases loaded.
- McCurdy made a game-saving catch in left field on a ball headed to the gap for the third out in the fifth inning. The catch saved what would have scored two runs.
- Walter earned her third save of the inning with a quick 1-2-3 seventh inning getting two grounds outs back to her and then a grounder to Lexi Smith at second to close out the game.
- Smith was the second Dutchman with two hits in the game. Julia Craig, Jordan Hess, and Alden Partyka had a hit each.
Game 2
The Dutchman (19-8) scored the only run of the game in the third inning as Walter pitched a complete game gem. Shenandoah (11-21) had five hits in the game and left eight runners on base.
Inside the Box Score
- Walter struck out five to earn her 11th win of the season and fourth shutout.
- Mandi Armstrong led off the third with a single to left. She advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Sam Burns and a grounder to the right side by McCurdy.
- Julia Criag knocked her in with a two-out single up the middle on the first pitch she saw.
- The Dutchmen improved to 11-1 at home this season and a perfect 6-0 in non-conference games at the LVC Softball Park.
- This was the first-ever meeting between the Dutchmen and Hornets.
Who's Next
Lebanon Valley will be back in action on Saturday hosting Lycoming College at 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. in Annville.
