SCRANTON, Pa. –
Julia Craig had three hits in game one and then added a single in game two as the Lebanon Valley College softball team played a pair of close games at University of Scranton on Tuesday. The host Royals won 4-3 in game one and then scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth to win the nightcap 4-3.
Game 1
The Dutchmen (13-5) got on the board in the second inning as
Morgan Comfort scored on a
Jessica Truitt single to left. The Royals (12-6) scored four unearned runs in the fifth to take a 4-1 lead. LVC rallied with two runs in the sixth and then had runners on second and third with two outs in the seventh before Scranton got the final out.
Inside the Box Score
- Craig led the team with three hits and scored the first run in the sixth inning.
- Julia Forsythe and Comfort had a hit and run scored each. Kylie Bathaser knocked in a run.
- The Dutchmen drew five walks in the game led by Anna Marie Hockman with two.
- Jordan Walter struck out three and allowed just two hits in 4.2 innings. Erin Sinatra pitched the final 1.1 innings and didn't allow a hit.
Game 2
Both teams scored all their runs in the eighth inning of a pitcher's duel. The Dutchmen (13-6) got on the board with three runs in the top half. Scranton (13-6) then scored four in the bottom half.
Inside the Box Score
- Jordan Hess had the big hit for LVC as her pinch-hit double in the eighth scored the first two runs of the game.
- Sam Burns had two hits in the game including an RBI single in the eighth.
- Craig and Balthaser also recorded a hit each in the game.
- Alicia Gotts shut down the Scranton offense for seven innings before the Royals scored in the eight. She struck out one and got 12 ground ball outs
Who's Next
Lebanon Valley will be back at the LVC Softball Park on Thursday for two games against Juniata. Game one will begin at 3 p.m. in Annville.
