Women’s Lacrosse Clinches No. 5 Seed in MAC Commonwealth Playoffs with Team Win Over Alvernia

READING, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley women's lacrosse team took a huge 23-10 win over the Alvernia University Golden Wolves on Saturday afternoon. In the regular season finale, eight Dutchmen put away goals, including Brittany Hathaway who netted six goals. 
 
Lebanon Valley (8-9 Overall, 4-4 MAC Commonwealth) was second to get on the board in the match up.  Although Alvernia (8-8 Overall, 2-5 MAC Commonwealth) put the first goal away at 14:44, the Dutchmen responded hot with four goals. The remainder of the first quarter was a back-and-forth battle between the two teams, but LVC came out on top 9-6. The Dutchmen dominated in the second quarter, holding Alvernia to scoring once while putting away three goals to take the 12-7 lead going into half-time. The Dutchmen came out on fire in the third quarter putting away five more goals and allowing only two Golden Wolves' goals. In the fourth quarter, LVC dominated on both ends of the field, putting away six more goals. Alvernia put one last goal away with 19 seconds left in the contest, but the conference regular season finale was already a finalized win for Lebanon Valley. The Dutchmen took the victory 23-10 over Alvernia. 
 
Inside the Box Score
 
  • Veronica Venezia led the points category overall on the afternoon. The attacker netted five goals and dished out five assists. Venezia was also a strong contributor on the draw, tallying 14 draw controls. The graduate student broke the individual single-game record in draw controls that was previously held at 12 in a game by Sam Boyce in 2014 and Jaclyn Little in 2018.
  • Brittany Hathaway topped goals in the contest, as she put six in the back of the cage. The senior also handed out two assists, to tally into an eight-point game, while snatching 11 draw controls.
  • Sydney Zimmerman had a five-point game for LVC. The junior attacker had two goals and gave out three assists. Zimmerman also had four ground balls on the afternoon.
  • Erin Zieber and Emily Beard each put up hat tricks in the match up. Beard also tallied an assist and picked up four ground balls.
  • Bailey Dills, Julia Gabriel, and Alyssa Wene had two-point games on the afternoon. Wene netted a pair of goals, while Dills and Gabriel each had a goal and an assist. 
  • On defense, Hayley Cowles played a strong game for LVC as she caused four turnovers and picked up four ground balls.
  • LVC dominated in the team statistics category. The Dutchmen went 12-13 on clears, consisting of a perfect 2-2 in the first, 4-4 in the second, and 4-4 in the third. LVC out shot Alvernia 47-24 overall, 36- 17 on goal. The Dutchmen also broke a team single-game record in draw controls as they tallied 26. The record was previously held at 24 by the teams of 2014 and 2018.
 
Who's Next
The Dutchmen will travel to Chester, Pa. to face the No. 4 seed, Widener University, in the first round of the MAC Commonwealth playoffs. First draw of the contest is set for 4:00 p.m.
